leave no trace
the latest poll question: do you seriously practice LNT ethics?
i answered no because
a. i don't pack out my waste
b. i don't pick up after other people
c. i've thrown a few apple cores in the bushes in the past
curious what others have to say
where do you draw the line?

@BobP
Anyway to make wrists larger? I hate mine, watches never fit right, sister had bigger wrists etc and if I follow the LNT guidelines, the size of my firewood is considerably smaller than guys, like, Chumley with fat wrists...

Ok I've boiled this all down to no fires built with material larger than Chumley's wood.

Re: leave no trace
Suggestions, please?
I will be hiking the AZT around Flagstaff this summer, and I am planning on meeting my wife (trail angel extraordinaire!) where the trail crosses or comes near to highways or trailheads. But, if I get there before she does, I'd like an LNT method of leaving her a signal that I've been there and gone on, so she won't wait for me.
For example, if she drops me off at the Marshall Lake Trailhead (AZT # 31 Walnut Canyon), and I hike north, I'm thinking she could drive to Canyon Vista campground, and hike the two(?) miles to where the Sandy Canyon trail intersects with the AZT. But, if I get there before she does, I don't want to have to wait for her to arrive. And, if I've already gone, I don't want her to sit and wait for me. Understand?
Any ideas? A long strip of cloth tied to a nearby branch? A pile of empty Bud Light cans in the middle of the trail?
A "special" gouge in the trail with the heel of my boot?
Any LNT ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

A cell phone text or call? There is service a lot of places through there. Incidentally, I've been thinking of doing some of those passages myself, starting maybe with #29. More on that later. My summer is filling up quickly with events.

I like leaving some message on the trail. Doesn't need to mean something to anybody else. At trailhead a you could arrange that you will draw something right below or behind the trail sign or other predetermined location if you know of one.
If it's a frequently traveled spot it might be good to do something a bit out of the way... Say "10 paces east of the sign"... Or something like that.

Re: leave no trace
Aboriginal communication methods are less prefered these days due to fiber tensile degeneration. In Grand Canyon we've used various small rock patterns at known junctions to communicate. Such as two cairns four rocks high with the third tier as a truss bridge between the two. The second party then reassociates the rocks to nature.

Re: leave no trace
Yes, I well remember the exact directions that someone had left for us to find a gallon of water left hidden for us at the junction of the Esplanade and South Bass Trails. Ha. Never found it. Luckily we were not out of water. It's probably still there.

@The Eagle
There was some discussion about leaving that sign there.
But LNT ruled and it was brought back, only to find a permanent home in front of the fermenters at Arizona Wilderness
