Cag Shot
You people should stop worrying about what other hikers do and worry about what you do, and where you hike.
If we're going to start casting judgement on each other, maybe be you guys should be bit more concerned about your livers or driving under the influence of intoxicants which is something I have personally observed with HAZ members. Do I post comments calling the functioning alcoholics irresponsible, for posting images of their drinking before driving, or drinking on mountain tops, when they have to hike down? No, I never have until now.
The HAZ Cag Shot Label may be the least family friendly and most offensive label to more than a few members who might have lost a loved one to a drunk driver, or merely been influenced by an alcoholic. Not to mention, it does send a message that this website condones drinking and driving, and drinking and hiking. Several members above this post have excellent representation of that label on their photos, but until now I would have never said anything. These behaviors are hardly responsible, and have a much greater impact on our society than some random hiker such as myself.
Have I ever posted a comment here telling people to go to AA meeting because they clearly have a problem? No, but there is ample room to do that to a few members. At least one HAZ member is so angry at the world that their excess drinking is known to people off this website, but until they provoked me one evening last year, I never said anything about it to them. This was despite their private comments to me about being an elitist hiker who thought the Catalina Mountains were gods gift to hiking. You know who you are!
If we want to start down that road, there are a lot of people here who could easily be judged for whatever excuses they make, besides being irresponsible.

lol can you show us a photoset that shows a HAZ member having enough drinks to be above the legal level to drive?

@Tough_Boots
You are completely missing the point, which was ultimately about not pointing fingers at people or feeling the need to start pointing out the flaws of other HAZ members, when certain members can easily have the same done to them.

Re: Cag Shot
If you read the opening and closing sentences used as paragraphs, and then read each individual paragraph, I think the point is clear. You might not like it because of the examples, but the message should be clear enough. None of that was directed at you, so you really shouldn't take offense. One of the most prominent members in the Cag Shot label isn't posting here, and I wouldn't say anything to them, it is not my place or my desire.Tough_Boots wrote:my apologies then... though, I don't think I can honestly be blamed for being distracted from your point in that comment.

Re: Cag Shot
Looked to me like the thread got taken in this direction by Randy, Chumley and Eagle. If I am required to sit back and take it when I wasn't giving it out, I'll take issue with that.Tough_Boots wrote:how about we just go back to "Hiker rescued from Arizona desert after three days"...
Otherwise, I had no problem with the thread staying about the hiker.

As far as the Cag Shot goes I always have one beer at the end of every hike. And I only bring one.

Re: Cag Shot
 The poll is missing the option about why this otherwise worthy label is represented by such a gawdawful beer. Because that's the most offensive thing about that label!

Re: Cag Shot
Umm.... implying that a Cag Shot condones drinking and driving, is like implying that bars that have parking lots encourage drinking and driving, in my opinion.
Jim, you might have a point tho about alcohol shots not being family friendly, but drinking beer (...:yuck:...) is in American culture. If alcohol was just discovered, it would be labeled an illegal substance.

Re: Cag Shot
Help me out here - what does CAG shot mean?
I know it has something to do with alcohol on a summit. Would a MAG shot be marijuana on a summit? :kf: Is HAZ accepting MAG shots from Colorado & Washington where marijuana is legal?

Re: Cag Shot
I do not understand the word "cag" except in the following case. This is a kayaker's "cag:"
http://www.nrs.com/product/2267/kokatat ... -storm-cag
Furthermore, I was surprised that in two online slang dictionaries the word "cag" does not refer to alcohol. So, I continue to not get it.
Doesn't matter. Over the past 5 years I have tried to learn to drink so that I could fit into social situations. I almost always end up with a headache after having drunk only half a beer or half a glass of wine, I have given up on the project. Fitting into social situations is not that important to me any more. I do go on river trips with drunks sometimes. I feel sorry for them.
And yes, from the grammar police, the correct verb usage is "have drunk" not "have drank."
