I thought I'd throw an idea out on the table

maybe we could combine the map & compass event with another that's been requested

how about...

the 1st Annual HAZ BBQ

I'm thinkin' South Mountain, Papago(but it closes at dusk) or Piestewa(the other side which is more of a park)
or wherever is good for orienteering & a BBQ

mid July Saturday, starts late afternoon with map & compass then the masses join for one hum dinger of a BBQ

might need more guides than just Matt if there's a lot of folks

Actually cindy, I already changed the number of friends for you on the map and compass trip, you just need to sign up for the bbq and follow joes instructions on that page.

Arghhhhh! I can't go to the bbq. I'm going to be on the Black.

Seems like an odd time to have an annual BBQ. Unless you are holding it every year in Flagstaff.

Not trying to offend but let's do one of these when the whether cools.

sorry you can't make it rjschroe

Maybe we'll see you in October at HAZOWEEN

I believe the general consensus is that when the weather cools it's trail time :)
Personally I'd love to hit the White Mountains and California crest or coast for that matter :) every weekend. It's just that by the time you get there it's time to go back to work

What better way to keep summer rollin' than a BBQ!
Personally I love summer evenings!

I am SO excited!!!! I am actually off that weekend and I am gonna be there! I signed up for both the class and the bbq! I don't see my post in either so I am assuming I have to wait till Joe puts me up there? I intend to bring my husband if he can come (if he is not working). I am assuming I have to wait till my post has been put up before I can sign up to bring any one or anything.... I can bring an appitizer type thing and any thing else that is needed.

Could I recommend bringing homemade vanilla ice cream with caramel topping and almonds?

And, believe me, her ice cream is much better than anything you can buy in a store. I mostly only like triple chocolate ice cream but the ice cream she makes is just totally awesome with caramel and almonds on top!

I would be more than glad to bring icecream but I am almost certain that I couldn't keep it frozen through the map reading class till the bbq! Hows about veggie bars, they are always a hit no matter where I take them even with the antiveggie people!

Yeah. I used to crank that puppy until I almost passed out and begged one of my four brothers or father to take over.

BBQ and Compass Class

Post by rjschroe »

I'm really disappointed I can't make this event  . I know it will be a success. I hope you guys consider repeating the performance for those that can't attend  . Oh well this is such a great site that I know there will be other events where I can meet many of you. Gives me something for which to look forward  . Yeah right! I'm still bummed I can't make it. On the bright side I will be at 6600 feet 8) standing in the middle of the Black River about the time your class is taking place. Catch you guys at the next event. Don't wait too long.

RE: BBQ@Papago Park

Post by Trishness »

WOW,

This is great! I'm fairly new to the forum and can't wait to meet everyone. For this occasion, I will make a vat (OK a vat is a HUGE amount) of my prize-winning chili (made with sirloin chunks, not ground beef) but I have 2 questions......

Beans or no beans? (email me at ptyrone@mchsi.com) There are varying differences as to what is "proper" chili. But I'll let y'all decide,

How hot do you want it? (I was thinking of making it medium and bringing Dave's Insanity Sauce for y'all more advanced/extreme chili experts)

I'll figure out a way to get the chili from Apache Junction to Tempe.

OH I forgot, I have tons of CD's so if y'all decide on a boombox that plays CD's I'll be happy to provide an eclectic supply of music

Well, I won't be able to make this event and I'm sorely disappointed. I've been planning a Sedona w/e for months now, and just my luck... it's the w/e of the 26th!! FIGURES!!

Oh well, maybe next time...

OK everyone, I found out about the music; heres how it is

music is allowed in the park until 7:00 pm. No later and if anyone asks us to turn it down we must oblige them. We can't even get a permit for this one, its the cities ordinance.

Does that mean that music is allowed anytime as long as nobody complains? Sounds like the 7PM thing could be pertaining to live band music?

No, I asked specifically about a boom-box and they told me that no music is allowed after 7 even with a permit. The music permit available is for live amplified music before 7:00.
