Backpacking 7/17-7/19

Post by nonot »

Planning to go backpacking this upcoming weekend. Plan is to leave Friday early afternoon from the valley and pack in Friday afternoon/evening, and stay in the area until Sunday afternoon.

Right now I haven't picked a specific itinerary but will likely be one of three trips:

Canyon Creek area (east of Payson) - http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=928
West Clear Creek Trail (Bullpen Ranch side) - http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=146
Chevelon Creek (above the lake) - http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=764

Willing to carpool if you can make that schedule (PM for details). Others are welcome to join if they want to just meet up.
If someone joins on that has a specific preference, it won't be hard to convince me.

You seem to have this incredible Ability for Planning Backpacks during a Potential Big Weather Weekend.... Apparently you laughed at Tropical Storm Andres and are going for the Gold with Hurricane Dolores..... : rambo :

I guess I've not been paying attention to the weather. Looks like reasonable chance of thunderstorms most of these days. Maybe Canyon Creek is out since you aren't in a canyon for the first few miles and more prone to getting hit by lightning while hiking through a meadow. People may want to consider bringing rain gear rather than just a poncho. Then again I was planning on swimming, so what's a little rain?

Should bring the temperatures down nicely though.

If you want, we can get together in the Future for Canyon Creek...I would have done that one with you if my Weekend had been Free and the Weather was just Monsoon and not Tropical....

The forecast is completely undetermined at this point. The tropical moisture may in fact result in benign rain without the dynamics for severe weather. It could actually be ideal. Everything is far from certain (or even probable) at this point. I wouldn't consider altering plans until at least Thursday.

I would do something moderate NOT on a weekend. Guess I should post one up.
