LOOK OUT!! Newbie on the trail

Post by oldmanonthetrail »

Hey Everyone
I am arriving in phoenix on march 5th from Canada and I have a month to six weeks to wander around your beautiful state .I am looking for a route that starts off easy .I would like to acclimatize for a week or so before getting into the tougher stuff. I have a car for the first week so would love a short warm up to get comfortable (new gear etc.) I have to return the car to Phoenix so would like to start close to there.I am thinking of the AZT.but am totally open to any and all option's .I would really appreciate any tips route's etc.(the less people the better ) Once again thanks very much and merry Christmas

Car is the pivotal factor. Still a plethora of options. Someone here should be able to help.

I just made the all triplogs index sortable by month when "backpacking" is selected. It won't be of much help since you don't know the area. I'm working on another tweak to whittle it down but it could take days.

This is a Nice Option in the Superstitions.... http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=557 Not very Difficult and you can add a little Mileage by Exploring Trap Canyon or if you're not Feeling it, you can shorten the Distance and Elevation Gain by Returning via the Dutchman/Bluff Spring Trail. Or Lengthen it even more and Hike over to the Peralta Trail and return to the TH that way, but that would make for a long third day. Water would not be guaranteed any further along that Loop past Charlebois.

If you want to make that Trip shorter, either in Days or by Miles, this is a good Option for making that Loop shorter.... http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=197 And you can Park Overnight at the Peralta TH regardless of how many Days or Miles you want to go....

Depends on what you need...REI would probably be your Best Bet for a 1 Stop Shop and I imagine just about everything will be cheaper there than in Canada. With that being said, if you just need a few Basic things, Walmart's Camping Section is a good place to try to pick things up...That's about as Cheap as you'll get....

But then you would have to actually go inside a WalMart, where you might be abducted by a walmartian.
