Maricopa 2K Plus
I used peakbagger.com to create a custom query of all peaks in Maricopa County greater than 2000 feet in height. The query returned over 200. Even the immortal Bob Packard, the greatest peakbagger of all time has only scaled 72% of these peaks. Might be cool for you to check out if you already haven't...
I don't think there's a way to share queries but you can look at my peakbagger page and click on my queries created...

Looks like there are about 160 in the Phoenix region on HAZ starting at 2k or higher.

Re: Maricopa 2K Plus
What's the qualification for a peak in the pb query? 300 feet of prominence? I know on HAZ it's as arbitrary as somebody deciding to classify it as a peak.

At my age when I get to the top crawling on all fours and gasping for air, it is now called a peak.

Re: Maricopa 2K Plus
Not sure for pb's qualification, but 100 meters (roughly 300 feet) seems to be a widely accepted minimum for prominence.chumley wrote:What's the qualification for a peak in the pb query? 300 feet of prominence? I know on HAZ it's as arbitrary as somebody deciding to classify it as a peak.

Re: Maricopa 2K Plus
When I added the 300 feet of prominence to the query it reduced it to 176 peaks...chumley wrote:What's the qualification for a peak in the pb query? 300 feet of prominence? I know on HAZ it's as arbitrary as somebody deciding to classify it as a peak.

Re: Maricopa 2K Plus
The site listofjohn (pay $ite) has Maricopa County down at 914 "ranked" peaks according to the 300' prominence rule, 680 of which are 2,000' or higher, but a lot of those are unnamed. Goat Hill comes in at #471! Would take a long, long time to finish those 680, and I do wonder if anyone has?

Re: Maricopa 2K Plus
I seriously doubt anyone has topped Bob Packard's 72%.sbkelley wrote:Would take a long, long time to finish those 680, and I do wonder if anyone has?
Currently I'm just a fraction over 25% at 174.
Although it's been 11 years since my first Maricopa County peak, I did the great majority within the last 4 years. I have no specific goals for State, County, or number of peaks so I doubt I'll reach 200 of the Maricopa County peaks before my hiking days are over.
