Highline connecting trails online
Hi, i was pondering hiking the complete highline trail solo from east to west in mid may , i can comfortably hike 10mi to 13mi , worst case scenario that would take me 5 days to complete , where can i find connecting trails around the highline to do a loop and at my mileage what loop is good for 3 days . Thank you.

Click on Map, go to the Highline area, right click, then click plot all routes in view. Might want to switch the map to FS Topo so you get the number of the Forest Roads, etc.

Re: Highline connecting trails online
Most loops involve using the Colonel Devin trail, The Babe Haught Trail, See Canyon Trail, or the West Webber Trail. Beware that other trails, such as Myrtle or the one near Horton Springs are not really trails anymore, and are in very poor condition. Making a loop usually involves long road walks along the rim road 300. Water is scarce above the rim, so you may want to consider caching water, or else hauling a lot with you when you leave the highline.
I have actually covered about 50%-60% of the highline doing loops this way so far, (I had one failed loop attempt where I needed to backtrack.)
For 3 days, I would recommend starting at 260 TH, camping near Horton Springs on night 1, going up Babe Haught trail and east on the rim road on day 2, and going back to starting point using the see canyon trail on day 3. This will involve about 2-3 hours of walking the rim road, with a cache that you want to place where the rim road meets the see canyon trail.

If you look at the Hike Description page for the Highline Trail you will see a map at the bottom of all connecting trails.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

You can also make loops using the Control Road or FS29, with less **ahem* elevation change than humping it up to Rim Road 300. There are ATV trails you can follow, too, if you want to avoid the Control Road.
