Need some AZT Advice

Post by DirtyTekkis »

Hello. I'm going to be in Phoenix with some friends this month and we want to do an overnight hike and camp in the woods. I've been reading up on the AZT and it seems like taking a section from it would work really well for us. I'm thinking #17 or #18 after looking over some maps and info. This website has been a huge help! Since this will be my first time on the AZT, I have a couple questions to help get ready:

1) Is it too late in the season for this idea? Weather reports look pretty hot already.
2) does the trail have any markings, blazes or posts to help keep track of where the trail is?

Thanks for any info you can share.

Thanks for the info. The temps in those sections look a lot better. Can't wait to check them out!

My son, daughter-in-law, and I just hiked sections of # 30 - Mormon Lake. Well signed, easy to follow, nice and cool. Easy to break-up into a manageable size depending on your requirement. I'd recommend it.

Also, sections around Flagstaff, # 31 & 32 - Walnut Canyon and Mt. Elden, respectively. Those are nice, and are easy to customize into a tailor-made hike.

Be sure to report back, and tell us how it went!
