Drones in the Wilderness
I recently found a high quality drone video on youtube flying around the Dacite Cliffs by the Don's Camp. This is a 15 minute video so grab a cold one, sit back and enjoy the ride.
I'm not sure what the regulations are for flying drones in the Superstition Wilderness, but I heard that they don't look favorably on them and a permit would almost be assured. I would check with the Mesa Ranger District for a clarification if anyone is thinking about using one in the Superstitions.

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
LOL.
So this is basically a pointless waste of time? :roll:Requiring drones to be registered will be of limited use...but regulators hope that forcing owners ... to register their drones with the government will at least make them think twice about their responsibility to fly safely and the possibility that they could be held accountable for an accident.

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
If they do that, they should make them have a Number that can be seen on the Craft, like you would have for an Airplane or Boat...That way if someone is doing something stupid, the Number can be Reported...

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
They could go a step further and require drones to carry the same kind of transponders as other aircraft. There are very small, lightweight transponders intended for such applications that will automatically respond to pings on the right frequencies.Outdoor Lover wrote:If they do that, they should make them have a Number that can be seen on the Craft, like you would have for an Airplane or Boat...That way if someone is doing something stupid, the Number can be Reported...

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
if you mount a firearm to your drone, does that mean you won't have to register it in Arizona? Or maybe drone shows will pop up and you can sneak through that loophole

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
You think the NPS, USFS or BLM will have the budget to add this to their "arsenal"?
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36425879Auds uses a strong radio signal to freeze a drone mid-flight - it will now be tested in the US

Don't bring your drones to the State Parks either - they are not allowed. I have stopped several people from trying to use them here so far.

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
People are getting fired up on one of the Arizona Hiking groups on Facebook that I belong to. They posted a drone video that they shot from the top of Flatiron and Peak 5024. What's bad is that 80% of the people in that group that are posting do not see anything wrong with a drone in a wilderness area.

those aren't hikers-- they're just people who hike every once in a while.SpiderLegs wrote:What's bad is that 80% of the people in that group that are posting do not see anything wrong with a drone in a wilderness area.

Re: Drones in the Wilderness
As I understand the regulation, it's okay to stand outside of the Wilderness boarders and fly your drone inside the Wilderness. This would limit the distance a drone could penetrate the Wilderness area.

@SpiderLegs
I went and read the posts there and can't believe this guy would post the vids. It's like..yeah it's not right but I'm so cool I don't care. It is opening a great discussion though.
