Name of Canyon North of Flatiron in the Supes?

Post by Steph_and_Blake »

Does anyone know the name of the canyon/drainage (formal or otherwise) in the Supes that divides peaks 4175 and 3903 (directly north of Flatiron, as shown on the Green Trails Maps)? This drainage goes north, not to be confused with the drainage that goes south and ends at the waterfall in Siphon Draw. I vaguely recall seeing it called Horseshoe Canyon on someone's post or in the Forum, but I might be confused....

It doesn't appear to have an official name. Perhaps some local names will surface.

It goes right to the Crosscut Trailhead, so Crosscut Canyon :D

I visited that canyon a few years ago and as I was looking at the dry waterfall, I thought how much it looked like the Canadian side of Niagara Falls which is known as "Horseshoe Falls" https://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=232229 so I gave it that knickname in my triplog. I think that's a part of the Reverse Flatiron trail used by @RickVincent... :-k
On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.

@joebartels
Thanks, Joe. The black, arrowed line on your route manager map is exactly the canyon that I meant. We've hiked up and down that canyon, but just didn't know the name. To date, we've been calling it "the canyon where I lost my apple" after my lunch apple tumbled down into some nasty brush when we were there a year or so ago. Henceforth we'll call it Crosscut Canyon. Makes sense to me.

@AZLumberjack
Yes. Great route to the top. If I were to name it, I would think it should be named after its most significant feature, being that tall thin spire. Maybe Finger Canyon
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.
