A recent
HAZ poll on hiker-medications indicated that 36 of 41 respondents take NSAIDs at least occasionally.
A study released in yesterday's
theBMJ says that even short-term NSAID use may significantly increase the likelihood of heart attack.
(theBMJ is formerly The British Medical Journal. The link above may require a subscription to view, however the journal is open-access so a PDF has been attached here.)
Since reading scientific journal articles isn't for everybody, there's a nice synopsis of this meta-analysis published in
The Sun . It has big type and pretty pictures!
https://www.thesun.co.uk/living/3520232 ... -one-week/
Lead researcher Michèle Bally, from the University of Montreal Hospital Research Center, said: “Our study supports recommendations to use the lowest effective NSAID dose for the shortest possible time.”
This study supports my long-standing belief that we're all going to die.

https://hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtopic. ... 57#p121936 I remember that thread. I'm surprised about the MI risk, but overall not too surprised about NSAIDs.

And here I thought my steady diet of steak, sausage, and Lttle Debbie snack cakes was going to kill me. Turns out it could end up being an ibuprofin that does me in.
Stop crying and just go do the hike.

I'm generally not into trendy designer things, but I'd be willing to try it out once or twice.
For science.

@joebartels I'm surprised wild lettuce didn't make that list. It can have similar effects to opiods for relieving pain.

I can name 10 things that are worse or just as bad for you as NSAID that I see on here all the time (and herping ain't one of them).
1) Sugar
2) White bread (that includes pizza)
3) Beer
4) Hot dogs
5) Potato chips/French fries
6) Soda
7) Inadequate sleep
8 ) Prolonged sitting (long road trips)
9) Bacon
10) Overeating

You forgot Ice Cream.
And that's why when JJ makes me stop at DQ I always get the fruit smoothie instead.
