Superstitions Point to Point

Post by Sketch »

Hello Everyone,first time on this forum. Looking for some info on the Superstition Wilderness around this time of season. I know it's kinda "pre-season" so trying to figure out a couple things. 1) How are the Springs? 2)which would be a better route?

So here is my plan. Going on a 3 night-2.5 day(Fri night-Monday afternoon) solo light weight backpack trip. Well experienced, with hiking/camping/backpacking. My "plan" as of now is between.....

A) First Water TH down to Parker Pass...Cut South through O Grady Canyon to Old West Boulder Canyon Ridge line,valley? to backside of Flat Iron/peaks. Finish Point down Siphon Trail

B) Crosscutt/Massacre Grounds TH down to backside of Flat Iron/peaks. Finish point down Siphon Trail

To sum up are my goals way crazy? If hard but do-able ill take it but impossible and foolish at this time of yr then please feel free to offer up better route that's Point-Point with great views and a high peak to summit.I would appreciate any feedback and knowledge about this. My fiance is dropping me off so that's why i'm trying to keep it easy access for her o drive home at night and find me Monday afternoon.

Thanks,all....Good Trails to you!

The only problem I see with plan A is water for night 2/day 3. I don't think I fully understand your plan B, but water will be problematic.

I would also wait for cooler weather.

Yep. Water issues for sure. How did you come up with those ideas? Knowing those areas, I wouldn't want to backpack them.

Modify to https://hikearizona.com/dexcoder.php?PID=598542 for water. Without any posted triplogs I haven't a clue on your ability so beware it's a rough area accessed offtrail.

@Tough_Boots
I came up with them just like by looking at other routes and trails,maps. I'm pretty familiar with the terrain but not all the trails so checking to see if its possible to cut across like that and end up on flat iron.

Thanks for the reroute. I'm a pretty seasoned hiker just never posted on here before. I wouldn't try to go over my limits and I definitely know when that is presented in front of me. Also was thinking La Barge to Peralta

day one: peralta trailhead to whiskey springs (likely dry) via coffee flat trail. continue on to laBarge. tank up! you'll need water for the next leg... day 2, dutchman towards first water then into w. boulder canyon, willow spring MAY have water. follow the rough and thorny w. boulder up to the saddle near heiro canyon. then continue to carney springs canyon w/ a side trip to robber's roost. back down carney to your waiting girlfriend with venezia's pizza and a sixer of Dale's pale ale.

LaBarge Spring via Peralta trailhead is a much better intro backpack to the Superstitions.

@te_wa

Hey thanks for the Suggestions! I'm looking into that route right now. I just told her about the pizza and sixer so that's happening for sure. It'll be around 2 when she's picking me up so perfect lunch/picnic with her Lol

@nonot

Yeah I'm leaning on a route like this or close to it maybe other trails thrown in. Really wouldn't mind having lunch on top of Battleship Mountain or another peak like that with a great view.

If she brought pizza and a 6'er up THERE to ya she'd be a 'keeper' (sounds like she is already though).
