Grand Cell Service...yaaaay *sarcasm*

Post by Hippy »

How have we not discussed the HUGE cell tower out at near Grandview Fire tower?

Did I miss this? I've been gone two summers and this hideous things has popped up. Today out on a training drive from Tusayan to Desert View Jamie realized his phone was on...at Grandview...and had 4G with 4 bars.

I think this is great for the occasional hiker who tops out early and can call her ride. Or great for search and rescue or other such emergencies...

But oh no...the tourists...I ran into a herd of 6 20-somethings who were all back against the wall at Grandview and one asked another "whats a good hashtag for this one?"

Why? National Parks are for nature and experience...not "likes".
(Unless you live here and all you ever internet about anyway is this place... :-$ )

Anyone wanna chime in here?
And while we're at it...I can't find any information about it on the interwebs...I'd like to know more about it.

tis nice as the buses supplied to accommodate will leave you out on the verizon unless you are at a designated stop

on a serious note it doesn't bother me, however crowds don't bother me either

Is the tower in the park or across the fence on the forest? Info will be found when you ask about it from whoever owns the land it stands on.

@chumley it is just about a mile from the 64. Natl Forest land. I think we rode right by it on our way to GC Fire Tower last July...that was when I first saw it.
Now that I'm back in the Pink Jeeps I see it clearly from Moran drive and the New Hance Straightaway.

Only thing I found online was from June 2014 a document about "Skinner ridge and Grandview" cell towers. I included a screenshot of the map here.
Kinda neat actually...now I have something new to go find.

@Hippy
I had no idea there was even electricity out there.

Did they at least make it look like one of those incredibly natural, but somehow strangely tall, pine trees?

As I'm sure you know, there are several of those on the outskirts of Flag, on 89, and one on 64 at Red Lake. The ones on 89 provided comic relief for my tour guests when returning from the Canyon and Cameron to Flagstaff, I'd point one of them out, telling them it was a kind of tree we hadn't talked about yet. "Do you know what kind of tree it is?" I'd ask them.
