If anyone can confirm or deny this below, previous post of mine (by having eaten here & other Mex restaurants in the area), please post your comments:

Libby's El Rey Mexican Food Restaurant..
(East into Globe on Hwy60 north side, after Hwy188 intersection and before reaching Hill Street(which is the right turn off Hwy60 for this Six Shooter Trail hike)..Look for a Circle-K and Car Wash on the south side of Hwy60..)"
Original name/address/phone# is "NO LONGER":
Libby's El Rey Cafe
999 N Broad Street, Globe, AZ 85501

NEW name/address is as of this 1/9/18 edit post:

I can confirm what Chumley says about J&R's vs. Libby's on the sign. I didn't get a chance to stop, but there wasn't much activity there when I passed by.Grasshopper wrote:Hello big_load-

I promised some feedback having eaten here after my and Eric's (ssk44) 1/13/18 area hike:Grasshopper wrote:NEW name/address is as of this 1/9/18 edit post:

..What to look for as you drive into central Globe on Hwy60 (north side): igallery/image_page.php?id=5410 and igallery/image_page.php?id=5412
..Complementary Salsa & Chips: igallery/image_page.php?id=5413
..Lot's of Mexican Food choices for combo and a' la carte plates: igallery/image_page.php?id=5414
..Ice tea & lemon with an optional sugar container jar (and not those funky little sugar packets) and with a real (longer) ice tea spoon;
..They have a liquor license with beer choices too for those who enjoy living more dangerously ;-)
..This overall newly remodeled restaurant with newly remodeled patio area is a relatively small place overall with limited seating capacity so I am sure it can be noisy and packed at times.. This Sat-1/13/18, Eric and I arrived at 3:45pm and even though in my linked pic above, the decent size parking lot appears empty, there were only a few tables/booths still open.. by the time we left after 4:45pm, I only counted one open table/booths;
..Service was good for our first visit with a number of friendly servers to take care of their customers;
..The bathroom (men's) was clean and will accommodate one person at a time with hot water, hand towels, and hand soap.. Check!
..Days/Hours of Service:
Mon: Closed
Tue: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Wed: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Thu: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Fri: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Sat: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Sun: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
..I do recommend this newly remodeled, new ownership central Globe, AZ, Mexican Restaurant: J&R El Rey Cafe Reynoso's

@Grasshopper
I can tell you for a Fact, since I pulled in there yesterday, that they close at 4:00 P.M. on Sundays.... I pulled in at 4:15.... lol Seems weird, but whatever. I waited until I got into AJ for my Mexican Food.

I've eaten there many times in the Past, but honestly, I just don't think it's that good. And the last couple of times, I'm in the Restroom practically the second I get home... So I just don't stop there anymore. La Casita's in AJ is really good food, with good Service at reasonable prices.

a lot of people don't care for los hermanos, but I've always liked it
maybe being out all day hiking or climbing has something to do with that?
or good times there with johnr1?
also like guayo's el rey in Miami
la casita is good, too

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?
I was impressed. The "hot" salsa was excellent.. Hot with great flavor. I'm a big green chili guy. Not many places do green chili right. It's always bland and boring. I ordered the "spicy" green chili burro (green enchilada style). It was very good. Not excessively hot with great overall flavor. The Burger House in Miami is my preferred green chili spot but this is a very close second for me. I actually enjoyed it about as much. It's just a bit different. I'll add that the refried beans and rice were also good. The only minor negative for me were the odd pastry tortilla chips. The chip bowl was luckily mixed 50/50 with normal tortilla chips.J&R El Rey Cafe

I agree with everything Hank (Grasshopper) said. It's a good place to eat. We had a great overall experience. I will be back!

Doing my January "hey - I want to do stuff on HAZ" run and I'm so delighted to see this thread still so active. Some things are like a warm blanket - or a nice hot tortilla for the soul...

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?
Maybe I should start a new thread, but this one will do for the moment. After years of going to Kachina Mexican Restaurant in Flagstaff, I now will stop going there. I have been twice in the past two weeks because I had friends in town who wanted Mexican food. The food has changed, is not savory, very bland. Margaritas are still good, and I think they still serve a pitcher if you want it. Even the chips and two kinds of salsa are very bland and boring. Now I need to ask my Flagstaffian friends for a better taco joint. Will report my findings! For the record Tacos Los Altos East, on Rte 66 at Fanning, is a marvelous take-out place, but no margaritas there.

Your friends will love this: My daughter has lived in Flag 15 years and asked me, dumbfounded, "I can't believe you'd listen to someone from NEW JERSEY about the best Mexican restaurant here!" But then she admitted that La Santisima is excellent, even though it's a chain. She said Las Gorditas in Sunnyside is the best. But they don't serve alcohol.

Is she the daughter I met when we rafted on the Salt River? I haven't tried Las Gorditas yet, so I'll try to get there the next time I pass through.
