True Confessions of HAZ

Post by skatchkins »

I'll go first with a doozy so others can't feel too bad.

After I moved here from flat swampy LA, I lurked around HAZ for while trying to figure out what's what here. Being not familiar at all with terms like Cairns, AEG, etc, I came across hikes that were called shuttle hikes- Stuff like, "Just take your shuttle vehicle back." All I could guess was that in Arizona, the Forest service or some private organization left cheap beater cars at certain points so hikers could get back to their starting point. I took it as literally and I guess as introvertedly as possible.

Any other SFWHAZ related confessions?

This past weekend was the first time I have ever bought a Tonto Pass - all to walk around some sidewalks, marvel at the amount of glass in the water, and see people going photographically nuts over overpopulated wild animals.
*it was an overpriced favor

I'm a bit curious... Did you park somewhere where a pass is actually required?

I can't believe how many folks I meet who think a pass is required for just about anything in Tonto NF... like simply parking at a Bulldog gate lot, or even at wider pull-outs along Bush Highway.
I usually tell them that while there are some places WITH toilets where a pass is not required (1st Water, Peralta, etc.) if there are NO toilets at all, no pass is required.

@CannondaleKid, yeah, Coon Bluff lot. If it helps, I was asked to bring a burner and propane for the coffee, but they didn't say where to get the water.
That went over interestingly.

@Chumley Start posting so I can again. I got quite a backlog of stupid #costume locations I haven't published.

@joebartels lol
