Completing the highline trail - 3rd time is the charm

Post by sajor75 »

Hey everyone, planning to complete the highline trail in April , last year in may i did my 1st section from the 260 trail to horton springs making a loop and back trail 260, 2nd section was mid october from pine trail head to dude creek just pass washington park, i had to turn back just past dude creek as the vegetation was knee high and there was too many elk tracks .
Last week i went on a little hike from washington park to dude creek and back, noticed most of the tall vegetation is gone and you can actually see the trail.

In April plan to solo hike from washington park to horton spring and back, the plan is to take it easy and soak in nature, hike between 10 and 12 miles per day, try to camp by 5pm and get up early 5am to continue, im taking food for 4 days just in case.

This year's Zane Grey 50 run is on Saturday April 27. The course will include the section of the Highline Trail from the Tonto Fish Hatchery to the 260 Trailhead. Unless you enjoy sharing a trail with about 150 runners, you might want to avoid hiking this section of the Highline Trail on the 27th.

Tonto National Forest has issued a camping closure for the area that Horton Springs is located and this area is apx. one square mile. The title of the closure states camping closure but the closure notice itself appears to be a full closure.

@Nighthiker
I'm not really sure how the text of the order foxtail lover attached could be any more clear?
