Charlebois Spring
Does anybody have current information on Charlebois Spring. I know its a solid water source but heard rumors that the Woodbury fire may have damaged it. Just want to know if I can still rely on it as I'm planning to be there next weekend (11/29/2019).

Re: Charlebois Spring
Arizona Hiking Group says the whole area has just disappeared and even a hardened hiker would have trouble completing this BRUTAL hike.

Still alive? Have any trouble with the rabid REI Adventures employees that have been known to roam the area?

Re: Charlebois Spring
@wildwesthikes hey there! Thanks for asking. We actually did run into the REI group. I think we camped next to them at Bluff Springs. That is where we ended up that day rather than Charlebois. All the unexpected river crossings really slowed us down. I captured it on video - really amazing how much water. We got hailed on too, and there was snow on the peaks further in.
Here's the video for anybody interested [ youtube video ]
You'll see near the beginning that we parked right next to the REI van.
It was really fun but we'll have to try again for Charlebois.

@charlieaz
Nice video! Yes the drainages are known to flow anytime we get more than a couple days of sustained downpours. There are times when lower LaBarge drainage will be above the knees - but that is a rare sight. I always bring extra socks if it hasn't been dry for at least a week. Trail runners work well these days if you don't want to carry multiple pairs of footwear, but are not for everyone.
Since we're posting youtube links, here is a trip video I did a couple weeks ago showing how much water has been out there: [ youtube video ]

Re: Charlebois Spring
REI runs a commercial trip into that area-- is that a joke? Are they going to lead hikes up Hayden Butte next?

@Tough_Boots
But if you had spent an extra couple of $ you wouldn't have had to spoon with @friendofthundergod in the twin-size bed at motel 6. Some money is well spent!

Re: Charlebois Spring
I met two of the guys running the REI train once while camping near Charlebois. They said they were "scouting the area" like it was freakin Denali.
Anyway, I've shared the trail with their groups a couple times and all I have to say is this: Bring earplugs...

That's about what I usually pay, but most of it goes to round-trip airfare to NJ.chumley wrote:The Supes trip is only $849. Seems like a bargain to me.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Back on topic, I do look forward to getting back to the Supes, which I really missed this fall. I can't imagine going to Charlebois any time soon, since I figure an even greater percentage of Supes traffic will funnel through there for quite some time.

@wildwesthikes yes, already viewed that video and all your others. You do great videography work. Already a subscriber. Nice channel... and yes! Bring earplugs (REI campers).
