Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@rwstorm
That was some thunder last night. The windows here rattled quite a few times. It was certainly more impressive than my 0.56" of rain, but that rain has me at 12.98" for the year. That's what I finished last year with. These last 3 years have got to be the wettest drought on record.

.75" for our neighborhood rain gauge and 3.43" over the past thirty days. For the year we are at 13.2" in (almost) Oro Valley.

@Mountain_Rat
I'm now at 13.32 inches for 2019, and I had 11.48 in 2018 and 11.08 in 2017. Nothing too far from what you would expect. That really was some good window rattling thunder in the night. I loved it!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Winter is now officially underway, but it came a month early to NJ. We've already had over two feet of snow and a couple ice storms starting a week before Thanksgiving, and we've had four unbroken weeks of January-like temperatures. Although a few milder days are forecast, I fear we're in for a nasty, cold winter.

I don't think Phoenix exceeded 115 degrees this summer. It was cool this year.

It was cool throughout my Thanksgiving visit this year. Phoenix, Flagstaff and Tucson all seemed uniformly cooler than usual.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
just for Jim we tell all of the other tourists about the dry heat here as we had only 2 days of 115F at the airport but those other 27 days between 110F-115F make little difference as that's just plain hot aka welcome to the surface of the sun hot.

think snow as several years of record snowpack would be very nice!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Wow, that's not many for the kind of weather you get. Our district does a lot of delayed openings to minimize snow days, but there are still so many of them that the school year often runs from Labor Day to the second half of June. A few years ago, graduation was on June 26.MtnBart01 wrote:5 snow days

Woke up to rain this morning in Cave Creek as I suppose most people in the valley did. Went out on our patio with coffee and the clouds were rolling over the edge of New River Mesa. Very pretty. Merry Christmas to everyone from the SloFolks.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Well, at least a few minutes. Apparently I experienced 1/4 of the annual precipitation during my November visit. I'm just glad it didn't happen in March, for my 8 days in the Grand Canyon.chumley wrote:here's a treasure trove of spank bank material that will provide days of stimulation and excitement

I was surprised that precipitation didn't come first, because it seems like bigger story for last year than the temperature.chumley wrote:The document included 55 links to more detailed information if you need to extend your duration.

Does anyone know if there is any snow on the Rim right now? In particular, the Promontory Butte area?

@DixieFlyer
Promontory melted out at the snotel sensor just over a week ago. History would indicate that most ground will be clear with occasional deep drifts remaining in sheltered areas and drainages.
Keep in mind the roads are still gated closed and will remain so until the FS has had a chance to clean up winter deadfall and the roads have dried out and won't be damaged by traffic.
