Coronavirus and hiking

Post by DixieFlyer »

Now that we are living in the era of "social distancing", it shouldn't be too surprising to see some hiking venues closed.

Here are a couple of examples:
* The Navajo Nation has closed all of their tribal parks: https://navajonationparks.org/public-notice/
* The road up to Kitt Peak is closed to the public...here is a pic that a friend took when he attempted to ride his bicycle up to the top: [ broken link removed ]

It would seem like hiking, especially in remote areas, would be one of the safer things that you can do...but with the frenzy that is going on, I imagine that there will be more closures in the coming days

Civilization is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there

If there are any "COVID-19 is no more dangerous than the flu" believers on this distinguished forum, then they need check out this graphic:

Mount Elden is fully open, and NAU is likely depopulated, so when the mood strikes, a Covid19 exploration can commence to evaluate parts of the Museum burn. Not all is lost.

That's the news organization that said a Boeing 777 with 239 people on board flew into a black hole, right?

I'm still cautiously optimistic. My group has backcountry permits for Yellowstone at the end of August. The communication thus far seems to indicate that we're good to go if we can get ourselves there, but there won't be any services or amenities available. Of course that could change, and four more months may not be long enough of a cooling off period, but the door isn't entirely closed.

Yeah it was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment. I expect different parks will have somewhat different management strategies.

I guess I'm just trying to make excuses for the large pile of trails illustrated maps for places I've never been to sitting on my desk at the moment.

Good luck with your permit sir.

No excuse needed! They're fun to look at, if even you never get to hike them. I have Capitol Reef and Bandelier on my nightstand.

The only thing this mess has been good for is broadening my You Tube viewing. Today it was " motorcylists outrunning cops" -- one was pretty good these dudes congratulating themselves on doing wheelies at 120mph, then got passed by a Porche doing 160 like they were sitting still.
Lets see yesterday it was Killing Eve reaction videos. Before that Russians rescuing animals videos. Then Russian bad driving videos. Waiting on the FBI to show up at my door.

I love preemptive "PC police" warnings. They are an eloquent mixture of pretending there is a conflict where there isn't and bravado for not being PC.

I love fake virtue signalling and attempts to be offended to gain status in victim culture. You know, like writing or implying that they know someone who is sick so they can shut down an argument they're losing because they disagree with the other persons view point.

So if my grandmother is in the hospital with cancer and someone is cracking cancer jokes, it's out of line for me to tell them they should be more sensitive? Ok. Got it.

Ooo, now you're deliberately creating a false narrative to increase your victimhood.

The irony here is overwhelming.

@Tough_Boots
That is Okay, since rcorfman's post and my response were both humor, given that posting links is not, "fat shaming", and an NHS (great Britain) study where Obesity and Heart Disease are linked to increased mortality in Covid-19 Patients is not, either. Now, I know a know-it-all like yourself wouldn't bother to read those links and would just jump to a conclusion since he didn't post them, and would instead prefer to insert himself in his typically insufferable fashion to post something from the hardcore identity politics playbook where a vague ad hominem attack is used to either discredit someone they have a beef with or create a moral outrage by saying you are under a false attack, or that not being PC (I thought you liked facts?
[ Coronavirus and hiking ] ) when it suits them is the real issue. I mean, should doctors and researchers just lie to suit someone who doesn't like being fat, just to make them feel better about their increased mortality risk? What happened to a love of facts?

No, that didn't seem to stop you from inserting yourself into the A- B exchange to achieve a sense of moral superiority in the form of a passive aggressive call-out on (gasp) the internet! If anything, my guess is you have been looking for a way to lash out or "Call Out" at someone to revive your sense of moral superiority and status after being told you were cowering at home. I guess we know who is sensitive about their weight.

The real irony to all of this is you are a cliche of a leftist Bernie Bro psuedo-Marxist, and I feel free to " Call out" you, as such. The insistence on adherence to government orders in all forms, the denigration of those who question, the choosing of facts to adhere to which support your ideology, the victimhood and call out culture tactics, the use of Marxist Style thought police beliefs about being Politically Correct under the guise of being nice, because we know facts and reality are dangerous, and I guess we all know that wrong think must be silenced to advance the narrative with out question and with strict adherence.
