Re: Here we go again...
I saw an ugly orange glow to the east from where I live in AJ (Silly Mountain area) this evening. I called it in and drove out to the Peralta School to see if I could see the glow. Yes I did, looks to be down by the Peralta TH.

Re: Sawtooth Fire
I'm glad I got to see as much of the Supes in as many seasons as I did. I was planning on spending most of my remaining years hiking in them, but it might be a while before that can happen.

@big_load
Really depends on the burn intensity. That there hasn't been an evacuation/closure order yet is curious considering how fast it's grown today.
Unfortunately the VIIRs and Terra data I have isn't looking great for the corridor between LaBarge and Charlebois - it hit the Music Canyon area around noon and until a couple hours ago was tracking to the NW roughly along the Dutchman trail. Area surrounding coffee flat took a big hit - I can already see a burn scar south of the trail about 12,000 acres in size from the daily low res image.
6 hours from now wind will be funneling the fire towards the direction of East Boulder Canyon.

Re: Sawtooth Fire
Doesn't appear that anyone is keeping inciweb updated very well this year, is there another site where information is being posted?

This is the best I can do. Same data except from a NASA website should be acceptable posted here. It's about a real-time as you can get without being on the ground.

A few links posted earlier in this thread too, but this site has been reasonably good for updated information.

@Sredfield
Inciweb was updated a few minutes ago. Unfortunately, the fire seems to be moving toward some popular hiking destinations.

Wow, that's not good at all. I really like that stretch of trail and areas nearby, especially Trap Canyon.wildwesthikes wrote: ↑Jun 01 2020 4:30 pm @big_load

Re: Sawtooth Fire
Information flow should be better once the Type 1 team takes over. The problem is that they think a Type 1 team is necessary. That doesn't bode well.
Of course as with Woodbury, they don't care about the wilderness. It's simply not newsworthy if thousands of acres burn as long as it doesn't burn private property or structures.

Re: Sawtooth Fire
Sadly Supes are in the wrong zip code, if the fire was outside of Flag, it would be smoldering by now...

Re: Sawtooth Fire
Inciweb has a map up. With the wind we have had, its not looking good. Their guestimate is the fire is at 18,500 acres

Whelp... As with Woodbury, glad I got to see the area inside and out before the fire, but sad that it may never be the same in my lifetime... At least this one wasn't human-caused.

I'm not really sure what closure order they're talking about, unless they're just talking about Peralta Rd. Still nothing on the forest website.

Re: Sawtooth Fire
All that lush green we enjoyed this spring from the winter rains is certainly biting the desert in the pumpkin now. Some pretty sweet areas look to be burnt. Looks like they are managing this one about like they did Woodbury. At least they are keeping the Apache Trail open for the time being. Not sure how much more closure the Canyon Lake Marina can take. I guess we can just accept that this was at least a natural event this time and not some idiot ignoring fire restrictions. I feel bad for the Wildlife out there, this grew so quickly, I can only imagine the casualties.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

Re: Sawtooth Fire
Yesterday I drove east on the 60 towards Superior, the smoke back in the mountains blocked the views of most familiar landmarks but Weavers Needle still stuck above the smoke clouds. Most of the air dumps were occurring more towards the Queen Valley area. The DC-10 tanker quit around noon but a Chinook took over after that. It looks like the firefighting efforts are slowing down. 18,500 acres burned, 8% contained (latest report I saw on the TV).
On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.

I did not see it linked, and there is currently a page for the fire through inciweb. The fire is at least 18,500 acres.
