I bet you could have a fire on top of Vermillion Cliffs... IF you can find firewood up there. That's the only BLM wilderness in AZ I can think of that isn't going to be like 100 degrees pretty soon.

You might check here, under 'hiking'.

There is no shortage of miserable hiker trash out there who eat nothing but cold soaked meals on the trail.
Cold soaking is not all that bad... It'll make your appreciate your post-hike meal a bit more too. :)

Jim_H wrote:Would it really have been all that difficult for the author of that order to have included the adjective "wood" before the stove or perhaps non gas or non propane? Oh, well.
It seems their pattern with these orders is to make them as broad as possible in the main summary, and then just list the exceptions afterwards. In this case, liquid or gas stoves are listed as an exception. Similarly the San Francisco Peaks closure order says entering the area is prohibited, but then makes an exception for the official trails.

I'm guessing it's because they'd rather someone misunderstand the order in the direction of thinking it's more restrictive rather than less.

Many years ago BG (Before Google) we had a Captain author the policy on facial hair. It to was vague, and it also included the phrase, " Vermillion of the Lip ". The only thing we had to interpret this phrase was a dictionary and a thesaurus but to no avail so we made a trip to a beauty salon for "official interpretation".

Out of curiosity I called the Apache-Sitgreaves Supervisor's Office. Mentioned Coconino entering Stage I on Friday and asked if they anticipated any fire restrictions on the horizon for their districts. She said no and thought it seemed unlikely at this point in the season.

Not familiar with the different Tonto ranger districts, but aside from the area around and north of Payson which got some rain, seems like a lot of it should not have opened back up. Globe, at least.

Kaibab NF begins Stage 1 on Friday Aug 14th too. Last week Prescott NF said "soon" 12-14th but have not updated yet.

Fire Restrictions are set to expire Thursday on the Kaibab and Tonto National Forests.
The restrictions for Coconino and Prescott NFs are set to expire a month later, at the end of October.

While I can see Kaibab allowing theirs to expire, I wonder if Prescott --- and especially Tonto --- will implement new orders that extend Stage I restrictions beyond Wednesday.

(Coronado and A-S have no current restrictions).

Apache-Sitgreaves NF implementing Stage I fire restrictions beginning October 9 (set to expire 12/31).
https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/asnf/new ... EPRD821960

I believe this leaves Coronado as the only NF in Arizona that is not under fire restrictions.
