Cabin Loop - Mogollon Rim, AZ :: Question by nolove923

Post by nolove923 »

Heading up to the Cabin Loop for a second time backpacking soon. Which trailhead is best to start and which direction should I choose? Thanks, I dont think I can do it all so maybe just the full circle trails without the middle trail, unless you guys suggest it. Thanks for suggestion. No high clearance vehicle either.

The nice thing about the cabin loop is that it's a loop and you can basically start anywhere and go either direction or even do a figure 8.

I tend to plan my trips based on where I want to camp. In my opinion, two premier camp sites with water are Aspen Springs and Dane Cabin, so I tend to start a Full day's hike (for me) away from there. How far you hike in a day is different for everyone, but if you look at a map you can find places the trails cross major roads (3 numbers) approximately the right distance away.

In my opinion, the center trail (Houston Brothers) is the jewel of the Cabin Loop and I'd recommend you include it. Often people plan only the "east" or "west" loop rather than the "outer" or "figure 8" loop. You don't have do do it all in one trip!
