2022 Fire Season
Well, here we go...
A fire out past Doney Park, northeast of Flagstaff, is fairly close to where I spend my summers. I was going to move my car there tomorrow. But I guess I won't be moving it there just yet. I'll park it somewhere else.
And... a friend and I were going to start a little bicycle tour over by Prescott, on Thursday. But part of our route is under a closure, due to the Crooks fire.

Re: 2022 Fire Season
Yes, I am still seeing this today. It's labeled at the fish incident and was discovered on 6.10. Maybe a slow burner they are letting it play out for the moment. Let's hope it doesn't blow up, that's all that area needs.Grimey wrote:There's some kind of fire activity showing on VIIRS and MODIS about 3.5 miles west of Hannigan Meadow.

Ny rumor is better than your rumor, and this was posted on facebook, so it has to be true, right??
Doyle Peak is completely overcome, exploding flames on the Fremont side of Doyle Saddle too. It looks like Lockett Meadow and probably the Inner Basin will be consumed.

Re: 2022 Fire Season
Inciweb seems to have just been updated with a new Pipeline fire perimeter and is now tracking additional 2 fires north of Flagstaff besides pipeline - the Haywire fire, and the Double fire, all burning around the perimeter of the tunnel fire, these latter two suspected to be naturally caused though still under investigation. Areas just east of the Tunnel fire scar are burning in addition to Doyle/Fremont and the areas west and northwest of the Tunnel fire scar.
The Fish fire just west of Hannagan meadow is burning in slaughter draw and is currently designated a Type IA wildfire (edit, that is the value it shows on the query, but based on other data listed it is only undergoing initial attack which would make it a 5C or 4C wildfire, perhaps there is a typo?), but very little info is available that I've found so far. It has been preliminarily listed as natural caused on 6/10 and currently listed as 100 acres in the Southwest Coordination Center wildlands fire database. MODIS only detected it putting out heat since Saturday, but it is definitely growing/expanding and hotter since Sunday evening. Luckily it is burning in an area pretty well moonscaped by the Wallow Fire so it seems to have low odds of turning into anything large.

Re: 2022 Fire Season
Yesterday afternoon, the area where I live in summer, in Doney Park, was evacuated. I already had my motorhome pretty much ready to go. The "Go" notice said "north side of Silver Saddle Rd." so that was us.
So now I've moved my rig and car over to a coworker's place on the far west side of Flagstaff. I'm in the woods, where I'm told the elk will come down to a water tank across from me, early in the morning.
I still have to go to work this morning.
The fire jumped 89, and maybe that was what prompted them to evacuate us.. We are actually right on Silver Saddle, and the area across the road from us was not evacuated. My landlord did not leave the property. But I didn't want to go to work and then not be able to get back home. He has his house and animals to worry about, whereas I can easily turtle away.

Re: 2022 Fire Season
@00blackout
Thanks for the update, I was just reading about this one too. I had hoped from the original location mentioned, that the fire had to be burning in the old Wallow scar, its nice to see it is. A nice low intensity burn is exactly what that area needs, let's just hope it stays under control and the Feds don't torch the rest of the forest back burning or getting complacent with this one. There is some decent chances of monsoon activity at the end of the week, but that will bring some more lightning of course. I see they mentioned it was heading towards Double Cienega Creek, the meadow over that way is a pretty nice little spot, I hope its spared from anything too high intensity.

@FOTG
Totally agree! Hoping a nice low intensity burn cleans some of it up. My fear, like yours is they screw it and it takes off running and they can't stop it.

They un-evacuated us less than 24 hours later. I like the place I've moved to, but it has no hookups at all, so back I will go to Donkey Park.

Re: 2022 Fire Season
KAFF News (a northern AZ news outlet) seems to provide the most frequent updates on the Pipeline and Haywire fires:
https://gcmaz.com/kaff-news/kaff_news/l ... line-fire/
Reports that the Pipeline fire is now 31% contained, and that a lot of resources are focused on preserving Lockett Meadow and the inner basin area.
I was in Flagstaff over the weekend, and we had hoped to get up to Lockett Meadow on Sunday afternoon. Then, the fire broke out ....
I hope that Lockett Meadow is saved, but it's pretty clear that the Weatherford Trail area was toasted, all the way up to Fremont Saddle. Doyle Peak has been overrun as well. We could see the smoke rising from the summit of Fremont Peak at just below 12,000 feet. Flames visible from the city were spiking 100 feet into the air along its slopes. Super sad. :-(

below is a link to the latest map of the pipeline fire. I have a hard telling to what extent it got into the Inner Basin.
