Re: Atmosphere Comparison
It was a tough Series for them, but unfortunately they earned the outcome they got.
BTW, there was no precipitation, thereby clinching the record. The rainfall deficit for September and October combined is nearly 7", and its expected to stay dry through the at least the first week of November.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Newark has recorded its longest streak of days without measurable precipitation in 75 years (and still counting). It will take them a while to catch up with Trenton, which is on its longest dry streak in 123 years. Now it's a dry heat in NJ, too.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Well, the lower dewpoint, clear blue sky weather might be near an end. That beautiful appearing low is moving eastward.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
November 7 was the first day since 4/1 where the high temp at PHX was under 70 - a span of more than 7 months (220 days).
Tomorrow should be the second one this season. Last year there was only one sub-70 day in November.
On average, the high in PHX should be below 70 from November 30 to February 10, a span of 73 days. Last year, the total number of days under 70 was just 50, about 32% fewer days than average.
Anyway, enjoy the increasingly rare and unseasonably cool weather tomorrow.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Apparently there's a mega triple bomb cyclone about to impart it's moistitude across the northwest. The explosion is slated to happen up yonder, with not even a trickle of liquid love down here in the southwest. So there's that.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I did an emergency detour the other day on I-280 in East Hanover NJ due to brush fire that went zero to five acres in the minute before I got to the exit. During that minute, it went from a wisp of smoke to a clump of oak trees fully engulfed in flames. I was glad to be so near an exit at the time. The fire appeared to have started on the on-ramp from that exit.
I've never seen it this dry here. The state climatologist says it happens every 50-70 years.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Yeah, it's not much, it was only the first minute. I don't know how big it got, but there are several fire departments within a couple miles, so they were on it quick. It's one of the three main routes into NYC from the West, so consequences accumulate quickly when it closes.
Meanwhile, the larger fire closer to home jumped its containment over the weekend. That's about 5,000 acres burning along some densely populated suburbs. A firefighter was killed by a falling tree in that one.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
A lookout operator here told me 100 acres is considered a major fire. I laughed.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Winter is here! (Can you feel it?)
I expect the various noaa orifices will release autumn recaps in the next couple of days, but I think it's safe to say that most of Arizona was well below normal on the precipitation scale. Temps were record warm to start the season, but quite chilly for a stretch early last month, perhaps dropping the seasonal recap below the insane averages achieved during the summer.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I wonder if one of my weather sources has their server in France. Right now in the lower corner of my computer screen it says it is 25492 degrees F. full forecast says it is slightly warm at 2200005000 degrees F. Did I move to the interior of the sun and not notice???

Not surprised about Marana being milder, but I am a little surprised Flagstaff is so warm and humid today.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Any wagers on weather
there will be any measurable rainfall at PHX before the year of our Lord 2024 comes to a close?

NWS Bellemont actually APOLOGIZED for the "dud" forecast. I'm in Flag for a couple days, and it's pretty dry. The only snow was a light dusting on the Peaks. Can't wait to get outa here.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
As a surprise to exactly nobody, PHX tallied the hottest year on record in 2024. By a staggering 1.3°F.
Three of the last 5 years and 5 of the last 11 have been especially terrible.
