What are your views on naturists/nudists? Has anyone come upon a naked hiker/camper and what was the outcome ?

In this county exposing yourself to children is against the rules.

In my opinion, that's a pretty good rule.

True Freedom

Post by Snick33 »

I think an expression of true freedom, and comfort of ones self, is exemplified by an over weight man or women who has the courage to appear in public in a bikini. They do so because it feels good to them. My discomfort in appearing nude in view of children lies more within my own upbringing. I once encountered a nude family at Verde Hot Springs. I was in awe at the ability of the children to be comfortable in their nudity, it's just that I had no place to look! Most conversations were with me looking into to space as I answered a persons questions. I suppose it's also the guilt or fear that I'm doing something wrong if I, even accidently, am with nude children, and who wants to end up playing rock-hockey in the big hour for 5-10 years.

I just remembered the episode of Jerry Seinfield with his nude girlfriend. He loved that she was nude, but it made him uncomfortable when she did every day things like trim her toe nails, or cooked.

I've been giving this topic some thought. I'd like to make a serious reply, and bring up an aspect of this that hasn't been mentioned yet.

There is a section of the hiking/camping fraternity that is rougher around the edges than the rest. When you have a bunch of guys sitting around the campfire, passing around the whiskey bottle, and swapping stories, the topic of conversation eventually turns to women. (I'm sorry ladies, this is a true fact).
After several days camping and living in the wilds, the rules of society tend to blur for some guys, and the veneer of civilization can disappear entirely.

So picture these guys, veneer gone, drinking whiskey, talking about women. Then introduce your naked hiking little self into the scene. This is a dream come true for these guys, and you have set the stage for something very ugly to happen. And don't think things like this don't happen.

For this reason, I have to say that hiking naked is not a good idea.

I'd add; cactus, catclaw, sunburn, about 15 pounds and Deliverance. as other good reasons hiking naked is not a good idea for me.

Also, the liability you would incur if you happen to be one of those people who the sight of you naked would blind/scare to death the unsuspecting bypasser. (hey, one serious post per day!)

What's with the venom?

So two to one want to do something that you do not. Intelligent or not, fear of injury or something else will not rule my life and I imagine many others feel the same way. Granted, this post isn't open to the entire voting public for a more accurate test of public opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but my question remains; What's with the venom? Keep your pants on then...

People sleep in the nude, take showers in the nude and do many other things in the nude. If they want to hike in the nude, great...if "you" see them hiking in the nude, they are simply "exhibitionist".

Isn't there a law against being naked on your own private property if you're in public view? I think it falls under the heading of "carrying an unconcealed, far short of deadly, weapon"!

Originally, the question is "should it be allowed", but actually - IS it allowed? Are we debating whether it should be made legal or made illegal? I'm thinking it isn't legal, but I don't really know.

All of this said: I still firmly believe that everyone should be able to do whatever they want to do, as long as they don't hurt anyone. Personal freedom, personal responsibility. Let's not forget that we live in America. So, I guess my vote is that yes, it should be allowed.

nudity is not allowed in the national forest. There is a sign hanging at the verde hot springs that unsuccessfully reminds people of that.

my $.02
There are two many deviants out there for it to be allowed. Imagine a group a naked guys roaming the forest tagging along with boy/girl scout troops... and it being perfectly legal.

Wrong Wrong Wrong, That sign at Verde Hot Springs specifically states, and I quote: "Fine for Nude Bathing"

that sign can obviously be taken 2 ways:
fine for nude bathing-being ok for nude bathing.
fine for nude bathing-being a civil complaint against you.
see the word "fine" in Websters.

I think SNICK realizes that whole fine thing. Sometimes his levity is ingenous. You must be careful to not only read, but try to understand SNick's posts. Not unlike the words of a sage. Often we will not understand till much later in life.

I think the park rangers dont consider it a real problem. I have never seen the law out there.

It's like that old joke:
A woman call's the police and complains about some nude sunbathers in the back yard of the house next door.
The officer comes over and says, "ma'am, I dont see anything"
The lady replies, "Well, stand up on this chair and you can."

Good lord Mike, look up humor, it's also in Websters. The "Fine For" joke goes back to vaudville, I remember it from "The 3 Stooges." I must be loosing my touch. Now I know how Lenny Bruce felt just before the police arrested him. You gotta be a Democrat.
