Good Hikes Near Carefree - The Boulders Resort

Post by TomMatch »

Hi HAZers!

I'm going to be staying at The Boulders in Carefree/North Scottsdale for a few days starting 4/8. Can anyone recommend good hikes nearby? The group's hiking expertise varies from very experienced to beginner so we'd like to be somewhat accomodating to both ends. We're also not averse to doing some driving but would like to keep that <1 hour.

Thanks!

There are hundreds of hikes within a hour, search this site, its one of the best sources around.

Some close by hikes are:
Spur Cross (Tortunga Loop)
Go John Trail
Seven Springs
pinnacle Peak
Camelback Mountain (Echo Trail)
South Mountain (Many Trails)

You can be in the superstitions in 30-45 minutes, this is a must do if you have time. There are any number of trails but my favorite is the Flat Iron NOTE: this is a steep hike, you'll need to be in decent shape if you'd like to be able to walk the next day. There are many easier hikes in the area such as First Water, hieroglyphics Trail, or Peralta.

judging by the amount of photos posted, the skunk loop one is the ticket

Personally, if I could only do one hike it would be Echo Canyon Trail on Camelback as long as it's on a weekday.

i would say the cave creek trail near seven springs just outside cave creek is a great hike, also try laBarge canyon via the boulder canyon trail near canyon lake, or the agua fria river or even algonquin to poland creek. there are also the verde river trail and some others that start near sheep's crossing at the verde river. There is a great hike near the boulders resort called black mountain, however I cannot find info on a trailhead. ( it may be extinct ? )

I second mike's suggestion about Cave Creek, I'm sure the wildflowers should be comming in soon up there.
No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength

I was on the Cave Creek trail on Sunday, there's some color but not much, however I would try to make it out there.
