Saturday, July 30th

MEET at Denny’s parking lot, SW corner of I-17 and Bell Road, 7:00 AM

Elevation change: 2400’ +/-

Get out of the heat and climb one of the prettiest peaks in Arizona. We will drive to the Kendrick Peak trailhead near Flagstaff and walk 3.5 miles up the south slope of the mountain to the 10,418 foot summit for incredible vistas of Northern Arizona. With any rain, the wildflowers should be out all along the trail. We will eat lunch and return by the same route. Bring a camera, sack lunch, and fleece/rain gear in case of an afternoon thundershower/hail. (Camping info below)

NOTE: All are invited to stay for optional camping in the Coconino Forest near the trailhead on Saturday after the hike.

If you’re camping, please bring the appropriate gear to the “meet” – OR, if you are short any gear but would like to camp, contact Bob or me for “loaner” gear.

How was this trip? I wanted to go but not sure if I can keep up. I love to hike but have foot problems that cause me to stop every hour or so.

If you're up for something, keep me in mind. I'm a bit of a slow hiker, too, on account of my height. Tall people tend to leave me and my stubby legs in the dust.

Great trip! Our fastest hiker was about 1.5 hrs. on the trail to the top, our slowest, about 2:45 - so there's always a disparity.... I advocate that folks hike THEIR hike. It's not a race. So I would encourage you'all to go & give it a try.... worst case.... merely turn around.
Rained about 11:45 to 1, hard, and then just spat a bit til 3:30. There's an old, small cabin at the saddle just short of the summit in which we waited out the hard stuff.
I go to Kendrick (and Humphrey's too) in summer EXPRESSLY FOR the storms, so I was in high clover!
(we camped nearby - no rain at all on Saturday night)
Sunday the rain started at 11AM and went til about 2 - 2:30. Lots of card-playing under the tarp and then went off & hiked the nearby Lava Cave.

Ok, I've never been on a hike. Looking for a beginner type thing. Oh yeah did I mention I have no gear? lol So needing help with that too, rental, not to purchase. I live in KS, so this will be a vacation thing for me. Also, need plenty of time to plan for this, single mom and I work a lot, so have to plan for all of that.

Anyone having any ideas, please respond back to his post. Thanks- Carla

Welcome. How did you happen to choose this hike? When are you planning on visiting? You need a good pair of shoes and a water bottle. Beyond that REI and many outfitter stores rent equipment. If you are visiting Flagstaff there are many hikes that provide a thrill that are not as difficult as this hike. Have you looked at Kachina Trail? Also look at the hiking clubs and groups. You might find a club with a hike that coincides with your schedule. This would be the advisable way to go.
