(Also saw your post on the Kendricks Trail thread).
Where to start . . . Buy hiking boots that fit and start hiking in KS to break in your boots and build your strength and endurance. Bad boots and sore muscles can ruin the greatest hike.
Where to start in AZ depends on when you visit. There are so many places and hikes that will take your breath away. Since you are from Kansas, you should avoid our heat. If you visit in the summer, look at Flagstaff, Sedona and Payson. If you visit in the winter, look at the Superstitions or Tucson. Look at the interactive map on the main page of HikeArizona.
For the ultimate, consider the Grand Canyon. Even a partial hike down Bright Angel is a hike that you will remember forever. And if you spend a clear night at the Grand Canyon you will see stars and galaxies and sunrises and sunsets like you have never imagined.

Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.

What are you talking about! I lived in Norton Kansas for a year, about age six, we went hiking! Well, it was out of state in the Rockiescficken wrote:I'm from KS, not much to hike here lol. Looking for a place to start.

You might check out the Articles for general info on hiking
http://hikearizona.com/dex2/articleindex.php
Then pick a hike that looks appealing from the Novice list
(that's Hike Indexes drop down menu and select "Skill Levels")
In the black header of that page you can narrow it down to a specific Region
For instance this link is for Novice hikes in the Phoenix Region

You're pretty close to Doo Dah. There may be some easy trails there. Or check out some of these websites for hiking in Kansas. I went to jr. high and high school in Coffeyville.

Thanks guys. I live near Wichita, but I could travel a little bit to get to some hills, may have to do that if I get time before I move. Oh yeah plan on moving to AZ in the spring.
If not, then I will just have to start out slow. And I may be blonde, but I'm not stupid enough to go by myself. lol Going to make sure I go with people that have experiance. Thanks for all the input and can't wait to get there, maybe I'll run into one or two of you out there sometime.

Just keep doing what you're doing. Use this website for all your hiking plans and trust me...you won't go wrong. This is one of the most comprehensive, helpful and well maintained websites you'll find anywhere in regard to hiking experiences in AZ...its like my hiking bible.
Good luck and enjoy!
