Snow levels in Greer, Eagar, etc.

Post by azbackpackr »

I live in Eagar, where it's been snowing all day, but has been too warm to stick part of the time so we have only about 4 inches. We are at 7,000 feet, so I called people in Greer, Alpine and Hannagan Meadow at 5:30 pm. Alpine-10 inches, Hannagan-14 inches, Greer-2 feet! All the folks I spoke to said it was still coming down hard. They told me there was no way they could get out of Hannagan now, despite the plow the hwy is drifted over, and the lady in Alpine said they are going to close the highway at the divide, so they are stuck there, too.

I hope it keeps going like this for another couple of days! We'll have good cross country skiing and just maybe a short rafting season on the Salt!

12" in Eagar this morning--we usually get quite a bit less, even here at 7,000 feet, than the surrounding mountains. However, since my car was good and stuck, I took the opportunity to go cross country skiing around town! I found some tracks and partly plowed areas that gave me a little speed, was able to get a good rhythm going.

I heard there was about 3 feet over in Pinetop, and I expect the same is true, in varying degrees, of Greer, Alpine and Hannagan Meadow. I hope the weather does not turn too warm too quickly and melt it really fast, although that would help the rafting down on the Salt!

The McDowells got a dusting too. Went up to Tom's Thumb and took some pics, looks like Cave Creek got covered in snow too. Mazatzals were white also.

Yep....they are right in my backyard and have looked MAJESTIC all day with the snow. Took a drive this morning to the Broadway TH and a short walk on Jacob's Crosscut for some beautiful pictures.

the panoramic views of the Supes, Mazatzals including 4 Peaks area, up into the north on my right and then the McDowells to my left have an incredible feeling of majesty. Makes me glad to be alive today!

Mike got me all teary eyed..snifff...

Seems like it stuck around...and its kinda chilly out. Can pretty much bet it will all be gone by next weekend, though. Except up in the highcountry!

Mrs. big_load is getting to see it, but I'm missing out. It was 70 here yesterday and 60 today. All our snow is gone. She'll be home tomorrow!

xc skiing

Post by azbackpackr »

I xc skied before work this morning in Water Canyon, right outside of town (Eagar). It's melting fast, but the high country got 3-4 feet, so there will be skiing for several weeks to come! Tomorrow morning before work I plan on going to Pole Knoll. I'm waiting for the roads to be safer--it's pretty snowy on all the roadways still, even here in town.
