camp between Phoenix and Aravaipa

Post by renshiwo »

Hi all,

We're headed in to Aravaipa from the West entrance on Friday, but we're driving from Flagstaff and would like to put in a few miles on Thursday night so we can get an earlier start in the morning. Does anyone know of a good car campsite between Phoenix and Aravaipa (perhaps the Tortilla Mountains?) that would be reasonably easy to find in the dark? Doesn't need to be that scenic - just quiet and safe.

Thanks!

Although not a camp, I've stayed at the General Kearny Inn, in the town of Kearny. It's like $30 a night and has a bar attached. $1 Beers! They have a little diner open for breakfast. It's less that an hour from the TH. I will continue to stay there the night before a trip.

I forgot about the campground (no fee), first come first serve at Kearny Town Lake. For additional info you can contact the Town of Kearny at 520-363-5547.

Both Usery Pass and Kearny sound like they may be within our driving range on Thursday night (we'll probably only go about 3 hours from Flag). Lost Dutchman seems kind out of the way. Is there anything near the Boyce Thompson Arboretum? Even just roads off the highway where we can pull off and camp?

Several unmarked roads are nearby but there are also some transient camps nearby.
