The Flume Trail is closed, the Fossil Springs Trail is open. I am not familiar with the Mail Trail. Campfires and smoking are banned forest wide right now, but backpacking stoves are o.k.

hahahah yea im afraid my group may no longer want to go. ive been before several years back ( as what else? a boyscout ) and apparently theres been some deconstruction since then. :( i would of liked to have found a less trecherous way in and out, since ive only ever hiked the fossil springs trail. also whilst perusing articles about fossil springs i read there was an incident with armed men ( article said they had automatic weapons ) growing marijuana in the fossil springs wilderness?!?! has any one else heard that?

Yeah..Last year the law busted a bunch of, yes, you guessed, ILLEGAL ALIENS tending and gaurding 120,000 pot plants. Yesterdays edition of the Arizona Daily Sun reported that one of same said ILLEGAL ALIENS was giving 3 years in jail, and then deported with the admonition to never return to the US..Now, imagine an American citizen getting busted in a conspiracy that involved growing 120,000 pot plants. The State and or Federal Government would throw you in a cage so deep you would never smell free air again.

In response to chronickind's reply:

"how's the swimming?" Are you kidding! Dude, you need to go here. It's freakin' awesome! Bring some swim goggles or a scuba mask. The water is crystal clear (usually) and you will see tons of fish. Freakin' amazing!
Oh yeah...I almost forgot about the rope swings. Rope swings are good!

Yeah that rope swing off the falls on the dam is awesome, plus you can swim under that rock arch/ hole to get to the other side.

I swear everybody always forgets about the rope swing just upstream from the dam, not even a half mile. It is the BEST rope swing I have ever been to... especially out of the 3 that are at fossil creek. Yes there are 3 (at least). Fossil Creek is an amazing place...

In response to azpride's reply:

The rope swing you are refering to is the one that I go to most often because it is the least used one. It's probably my favorite also for that reason.

Has anybody ever jumped off the dam??? Forget the rope swings, that is the real rush. It is perfectly safe as long as you jump out far enough to clear the rock. The water is probably 18 or 20 feet deep, so you don't have to worry about hitting the bottom.

I watched 3 guys jump off the dam this past weekend. I think it looks fun, but my girlfriend would have killed me if I had survived the fall. :D

A few years ago, I busted an ear drum on a bad landing at Saguaro Lake. My days of high cliff jumping are over...unfortunately. :(
