Secret Hikes

Can anybody explain...
The point of publicizing a Secret Hike.

a) Creating a mystery for others to figure out.
- at which point somebody will figure it out then post, but you won't be the culprit (or will you)

b) Keeping it on the "down low" as your gesture to keep the site in pristine condition by means of minimal use.
- Which makes no sense because the ulimate form of keeping it on the "down low" would be to not post it to the public.

c) ?
d) ?

To share the experience? I dunno. If I want to keep a hike unknown I don't post a writeup about it. Sometimes I post pictures or triplogs but even that backfires. I've posted photos of places I wanted to keep low key only to see a complete writeup appear on the site later.

The only reason I can see making sense is the secret hikes on toddshikingguide.com. His secret hikes are all technical canyons. Sharing the technical beta can potentially save lives, so that makes sense to me.

My only secret hikes are secret even from me: I couldn't find 'em again if I tried.

Secret is secret. I may sometimes, if its someone I know and trust, take someone to one of my secret places. But I also have places that not only would I never take anyone else, I'd never go again.
