Mr Modem

Post by joebartels »

Thought I should clarify something since Mr Modem is a geek

His tip of the day is to press "Alt + F4" to kill pop-up windows.
It's actually a great tip, but it has nothing to do with pop-ups. He's assuming the pop-up is active, which it usually is.

The true function of "Alt + F4" is to kill the "Active" window

If you can't think that fast, just hit "Esc" this will stop the current page from continuing to load

Fox 10 should have made Mike Mr Modem, he very good at explaining these types of things

Excellent point teva! I think I'd have a hard time taking tips from a guy named "Mr Modem" anyway... Why not just press "Alt-Ctrl-Delete" twice!!!

There are some decent pop-up, and pop-under killers out there. I saw a good looking one the other week, but now I can't recall what it was called. I'll check my email at work, see if I can find it and post it here in case anyone's interested.

I missed this part!

Yeah, that'll happen! Gee, I used to live only a couple of miles from their studio in Tempe. You'd think they would've noticed me then!!

The new version of Zone alarm has a pop up filter built in..

Zone alarm pro 3.0

Seems to work pretty well.

One of the better popup killers is one called "proximotron" - you can find it here: http://www.flaaten.dk/prox/

It is a little more technical to set up - but those who use it swear by it.

I found the email with the link to a popup killer program, "Free Surfer mk II". This one is free and looks interesting. I will probably download it at home and try it out. If anyone else wants to give it a test drive, you can get it at http://www.free.surfer.tc/mail.
