Humphreys Summit - Aug. 23

Post by azdesertfather »

I'm looking for a person or two who might be interested in summiting Humphreys with me on Sunday morning, Aug. 24. I'd like to leave the TH around 5am, so we can get up and back down before any monsoon storms come along. I personally will already be there, camping over the weekend. Any takers? I'm up for either of the hikes to the summit...Humphreys Summit Trail or Humphreys via Inner Basin.

Possibly. I want to do Humphrey's before school starts. If we're going to meet that early I'll probably just camp somewhere up there on Saturday, no point to wake up at 2 am to start driving.

I just worked it out, so that will be fine. Let's move it to the 23rd. It'll be good for you and I to take on another challenge!!! :sl:

I'll change it on the post.

Anyone else in, by moving it to Saturday??

since we'll already by at Lockett Meadow, let's plan on doing the Inner Basin trek. I think we'll enjoy it more anyway.

What do you think, 5am? That should get us down by 1, and back down into the treeline by noon...

5 am sounds good. Thats probably the earliest Id wanted to get up anyway.

If anyone else in phoenix wants to join let me know and we can try to arrange a carpool.

Just so you guys know. Im gonna leave probably early friday, possibly between 8-10 am. Then I'll do a hike before heading to Lockett Meadow, Im thinking I'll arrive at Lockett meadow between 2 and 4. Hopefully there are still sites available when I get there. There wasnt last time I went, but we'll see. If not I can always drive back down and stay at Bonito CG.

I'm planning on going up with a couple of friends at 9am Friday, to make sure to snag a campsite early. I hear this time of year on a Friday they're typically all gone by 2pm. Then I'm going to take them to the Lava Tubes and we're going to hang around Flagstaff, will be back sometime after dark...hopefully early, to get enough sleep for the 5am takeoff!

It looks like from the Coconino National Forest web page on Lockett Meadow that they'll allow up to 8 people on a camp site as a "single family"...we'll just all be one happy family for a night! :sl:

If you decide to go for sure, we'll PM back and forth our cell numbers, so that I can let you know which campsite it will be, since I may not be there when you arrive.
