Radio #3 arrived today and it works just fine. Garmin Tech Support spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me.
Radio #2 is being replaced by Garmin with a brand new one.

All settings were correct and software updates were applied. I tried that first, Btw.

The Garmin tech support people are great to work with.
My problem is solved. I just can't wait to hear what was wrong.

On another subject, I tried the Garmin MapInstall and Road Trip software on my MacBook Pro. The performance is greatly improved over my iMac G5.

RINO UPDATE:

Garmin sent me a replacement for the second Rino. They were defective.

With two working Rinos, all I can say is that THESE THINGS ARE AWESOME!
The really great thing is when you are hiking with a partner who also has one. Each time you press the Talk or the Call button you transmit your position to the other Rino. You are able to see your hiking companion right on your screen. You are able to select your companion as a waypoint so you can tell your relative positions each time the information is updated.
You can even transmit waypoints to each other.

We are really having fun with these.

That sounds cool. I just ordered my GPS last night (finally!), a Garmin Colorado 400t. Found it on sale for just $440, and with a $50 mail-in rebate right now and doing free in-store pickup, my damage is only $390 in the end. :D

Have you tried CodeWeavers Crossover?
I also have just one windows program that I can't do without, Global Mapper 10. It is supposed to run on crossover (which is based on WINE). I'll give it a try this week.

I messed with crossover office a few years back; wine has matured to the point that I never saw a need to pay for crossover...
