What trail will you first plan to hike.

Post by Abe »

With the news of moisture possibly moving in and the monsoon season just coming around the corner; I am going to be upbeat here on the subject. I have cabin-fever knowing I am stuck in the rut of a daily ritual and I cannot hike in the hills. But! I am a daydreamer! And this helps, because it always rains after a dry spell. So my question to all is, when the rains come and when the N.F. are open where will your first hike be? Presently, if one can believe this, I have not picked a trail, yet I have daydreamed about many. And the trail I pick and hike, I will treat it like a first date.

There are plenty of hikes to do!! The Phoenix mountain preserve and other desert mountains are open with many miles of trails. I have not done any less "hiking" than before the restrictions. Get up early!

Yep, I counted over 300 on South Mountain last Saturday. If you want to stay away from the crowds simply stay west of the radio towers. A 5am start really is pretty cool. Midway through the trail it's amzing to think it'll be 25 to 30 degrees hotter. Plus it's a lot closer to home for those in the valley.

To get back to the topic, I look forward to more hikes in the Munds Wilderness!

I fed my habit an 8 mile RT on the National Trail into South Mountain this morning. However, as soon as Tonto reopens I plan to hit the Peralta trail loop. Then I'll check out Reavis Ranch to see how the apple trees are doing. (And check out the falls after the rain! )

I will probably hike this next week while I am in Yuma. Not great, but hiking still.

Ive done no less hiking either.... Everything in the Phoenix Mountian preserves is open... Since I live north, I tend to stay local. I also like south mountian park.

I don't have a choice. I am trying to get into shape for a Rim to Rim hike in the GC this fall - so I have to keep a fairly aggressive hiking schedule. I am going to be spending a lot of time on the circumference trails around Squaw Peak - I haven't done much in South Mountain, maybe that will change as Squaw Peak becomes more boring.

I know this sounds absurd but after being here for the better part of 26 yrs I have never other than running Squaw Peak hiked locally. I'd appreciate it if I could tag along with anyone doing the other Squaw Peak trails or the Sup's or Phx Mtn Preserve, etc. I guess it's time I get to know what this wonderful city has to offer. Thanks, Cindy 8)

I've had very bad luck hiking in South Mountain - gotten lost twice. So, like Cindy, I'd like to tag along with someone doing an easy or (maybe) a moderate hike there.

But, when the forests are open again, I'm really looking forward to hiking Sterling Pass across to Slide Rock park in Sedona. Slide rock sound like too much fun!
