Superstition Ridgeline December 20

Post by rally_toad »

Okay so I had already asked this weekend off for another trip, but since te-wa canceled on West Boulder Canyon... Im thinking that this saturday would be perfect to tackle the Ridgeline. One that I've wanted to do for a while...

Im planning on bringing all my water, dont want to worry about running out, 100 liters is good from what I hear. Anyone else with a 7 seater vehicle? Looks like we've got a good group together. Too bad I couldnt get this much interest in the trans supes hike 2 weeks after!

I've been surprised to see a very light creek flow a week after a heavy rain but would never count on it. Especially considering we haven't had anything in the heavy range for a half year. If present it'll be on the backside of the three sisters where you go through a cairned drainage or where the ridge meets the nw peak obstacles.

My bad, what I meant to say was, 100 liters is good for nonot, 100 ounces should suffice for everyone else.

100 ounces?......thats what a bit over 3/4s of a gallon? Sorry I don't remember all my standard conversions (god I wish we used the metric system in this country).

If we need to take two cars to the Peralta side and leave the seven seater on the Flatiron side I'm willing to drive my car to the Peralta side as the second car. We can still hang my park pass on the mirror of the seven seater at the Flatiron side then we would only need one car on that end (so far)

Yeah no kidding, I don't suggest the scenic route I insisted on
We lollygagged too much that day too. I ran out of 164oz 3/4 of the way in. If it's going to take 10+ hours 200oz seems optimal. If you can pound it out in 6 hours 140oz might suffice.

I don't expect temperatures in the 90's but I would bring at least a gallon (128oz). If I Camel up an extra quart before the trailhead and I'll have extra.
I need a spare quart to drop on Pace.

well it looks like we could very well need space for 8 before we're done. if so, i can drive one of the 4 cars of 4 or 5...

If you can pound it out in less than 6 hours you should consider registering for the ironman. I think par for the course is what...8-9 hours, depending on where you start?

When I did Flatiron I saw a native American guy that probably could have done ridgeline in 6 hours or less. He passed us on the way up at the slickrock basin and passed us on his way down no more than 45 minutes later......he was literally sprinting up siphons draw.....I think he had a 20 oz bottle of water for it too >< Seriously this guy made siphons draw look like a morning workout.

Ouch...just saw that the low for Saturday morning in Chandler is 33, so it will probably be below freezing out there that morning when we get started!

I like hikling in colder weather anywho. once you get moving you warm up nicely and you don't really sweat as much. Not only that but you can always bundle up and warm yourself in cold weather. You can't exactly strip down to cool off in hot weather (well you can but I'm never gonna be caught naked near cacti or catclaw : P).

If you commit and make it to Lowes on Saturday am..you're in. It may be cloudy on Saturday but I think we'll be dry.

Im bringing a rain jacket just in case. In the hiker's guide to the supes it says "be prepared for any weather condition". Im excited for this one!

Saturday at Lowe's at 6:30 Am! We will set up the shuttle from there! Right now it looks like with 7 people committed we will be taking 3 vehicles, unless someone else shows up with a 7 or 8 seater.

We will be hiking south to north, from Carney Springs to Lost Dutchman. Bring plenty of water, and pack a lunch!

See you all there!

Usually after a rainy spell like we've had we'll get a week or two of real pleasant sunny weather, at least its that way in the winter time it seems.
We should be good, weatherwise.
