Surely you've caught a better than usual glimpse of local newscast this past week!
So, who's your favorites and least favorites?
Having worked in central Phx in the past I couldn't help but come to know the personality of many of the old timers.
I'm fairly even across the board, I flip between all the channels. However, I gotta say I rarely watch ABC on 15. Just seems like a dull group other than Cameron.

I rarely watch the local news channels, but I when I do, I flip between them. Most of the local people are a joke. 10 is ok, John Hook isn't too bad. Cameron on 15 is something like an old friend. I lived in Chattanooga, TN for 2 years before I moved to Phoenix, in the late 80's. Cameron was on a station there and was by far the best in town.
Going back even further, J.D. Hayworth was a sportscaster on one of my hometown's stations in the early 80's. I even met him once back then. I was a little surprised to see him on TV in Phoenix when I moved out here. Now he's a congressman!

I also flip around.... Fox 10 is my favorite, but thats probably because its the first channel I became familiar with when I first landed in Phoenix. They have a good morning show, but 30 minutes is all you need. It seems like they just start reading the same stories again every half hour.

Only slightly off topic 'cause it is the news: Found this on MSNBC this afternoon:
"SAN FRANCISCO, June 26 — In the first decision of its kind, a federal appeals court on Wednesday declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional because the words “under God” added by Congress in 1954 amount to an endorsement of religion."
Of course this means that all that money in your wallets, purses, pockets, etc. is unconstitutional as well 'cause it carries the slogan, "In God We Trust" so you're gonna have to destroy all your money! Better yet, send it to me and I'll handle the job for you!
(Just the paper stuff please.)

Based on the following, I'd say Dubya is innocent, no crime has been committed.
Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.
Defacement of currency in such a way that it is made unfit for circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the United States Secret Service.

Back on topic - I personally hate most everything about the local news casts. I'm not all that thrilled about national newscasts either. The all time biggest pet peeve is when any event of any significance whatsoever happens on a national/international level all the local reporters run right out and try to find a local connection.
"We're here with Selma, she's the best friend of the 2nd cousing of the man who felt the tremors of a minor earthquake in southern California. Selma, tell us what you're feeling right now..."
Please. It just irks the hell out of me. Tell me more about the actual event - not what somebody who happens to have local ties to it happens to think about the whole thing.
The media in general bugs me most of the time though, so I'm kind of biased in that regard.

One more thing - Cameron Harper - I lost all respect for that man back in 1988. I watched an interview he was doing with, at the time, Gov. Mecham. He was trying to get Mecham to admit to wrong doing (I don't even remember the crisis in question now) and he asked the same thing something like 6 times, slightly rewording the question each time. Mecham responded the same way each time "No, I'm not going to comment on that." Eventually he got a little frustrated and said "Well, if you're not going to ask me any other questions then why don't we just stop the interview?" So Cameron, not having any othe questions, ended the interview.
I'll never forget how frustrated and flustered Cameron Harper was after that interview, I laughed my butt off! Imagine...the nerve of someone not answering his questions...even when he asked it in a different way! 6 times! What a joke.
I've seen other reporters do the same thing. Jim Grey with an absolutely obnoxious interview of Pete Rose before and all-star game - same thing, asked the same question 5 different ways (about gambing obviously), Pete gave the same answer he always does and eventually Pete just walked off. What, did Jim think Pete would suddenly change nearly 30 years of one story just for him?
I don't think there is anything that annoys me more about the media. They already answered the question once - do you think you're going to trick them or something? Just moronic.
Okay - I'm done now. I'm not in a good mood today - so this helped.

If NPR had a televised newscast, I'd watch it, but until then, I have to say I flip around the channels...perhaps pausing longer on the Channel 3 for the eye-candy.
I can't help but laugh when the local news gets all geared up for minor events, like a storm! I remember 2 years ago, the forcast called for a thunderstorm to hit the area, well all the channels went ballistic with special reports "STORM WATCH 2000"...they interviewed any mouthbreather to ascertain how they were preparing for the storm. Crack me up.
The news is one thing I miss from Chicago...we had some decent newscasters back there.

Well I already told ya all how I felt about the newscasts in another posts. But Joe, your really asking for it when you ask this question.
I find myself being very petty and judgmental with these people. Now, days after the fire started, I can hardly listen to them. I only seem to watch 'em to pick 'em apart.
We mostly watch 3TV in the a.m. - I like that crew. They make me laugh. Tara and her new boobs, Dan and his John Deere fascination (me too!) Brad and his friday dance, Scott - he's just so cute-in a little boy sorta way. Really can't picture him on the Harley. Bruce in the helicopter is VERY good. Glad Rich Skidmore is leaving - FYI - due to intimate knowledge of one of his reports, I have no problem saying most of his "undercover" reports are lacking BIG TIME. Channel 5's helicopter never gets a clear signal. Channel 12 -
Jineane, honey, lets take a hike or two or three and afterwards we'll swing by the beauty shop for a new do. As for the evening news I swing between channel's 3 & 10. TV Personalities I like Patti Kirkpatrick; John Hook; Kent Dana. TV Personalities I don't like Linda Williams; Robin Sewell; Kris Long, Liz Habib (what was the bar story on her?)etc. Heard about Terry O's swinging lifestyle.
I remember Cameron and J.D. Cameron what did you do to your hair? I was bummed when he and Heidi left. I guess Channel 3 just wasn't up to his caliber when they lost their ABC affiliation. J.D. and I have constant correspondence. I email him to tell him how to vote and he sends me an official letter telling me why he couldn't do that. Well you know how my official vote will go.
After all is said and done - we turn to CNN for the real scoop.
Ok, I'll stop.
Now Hooley ~ I'm sorry to play Devil's advocate  but as much as I love God and want him to bless my country ~ I want this country to continue to make positive changes i.e. setting blacks free; give women/blacks right to vote and own property; equal opportunity for all, etc. I do think it was God's will that lead our forefathers to write the Constitution, etc. and anyone who doesn't think those men were led by God is blind. However, I don't think He's afraid of what will happen if we have a COMPLETE division between Church and State. I think he has the courage for that to happen in order to truly make this One Country for All. Even tho, I like it the way it is. It makes me feel good to include God in my Alligience; on my Money, in my Constitution, but if they take the words away, they won't take God away from me. When they quite saying the Pledge in school - thats when I get hostile.

Anyhow, isn't it great how all of us who have so many differences come together in droves when disaster strikes. I think it acknowledges what being an American is all about.
