Something ODD in the Gazetteer

Post by ck_1 »

While mapping out our route the other day, I discovered something in my DeLorme Arizona Atlas & Gazetteer. On page 45, which shows the area just east of Holbrook, south of 40, east of Petrified Forest NP is an area called Billings Gap. Next to the words "Billings Gap" is a sketch of what appears to be a frog wearing a cowboy hat.

I'm not making this up. I can't figure out what the hell it is there for...there are no such pictures in any legend.

I tried to photograph it to post here, but my digital would not produce anything better than a blur. I'll email Joe the photo I did take of it, maybe he can post it here.

Does anybody have any idea what this frog indicates?

Occasional, in large scale blue line drawings, the Architect will put something on the page that is totally off the wall, just to insure that people are actually reading the plans.

I once had a large contract for a shopping center and in what is called the "Boiler Plate" section of the document, (mundane nominclature some 300 pages long) the author inserted that I was willing to put forth my first born child in the event of any problems on the project. It got my attention.
