Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is offering a special guided hike for experienced desert hikers on Saturday March 7th, March 21st, and April 4th. The day will be spent exploring the natural and cultural history of the monument`s highest peak.
This is a strenuous 10-mile round-trip hike that climbs 2600 ft on an unmaintained route with exposed slopes and unstable footing. Bring a lunch, at least 1 gallon of water per person and hiking poles. The hike starts at 8am; plan on a 10-hour day. A head-lamp is recommended.
Due to wilderness regulations, reservations are required by 5 pm the day before the hike and group size is strictly limited to 10 people per day. Camping is available in the monument and hotels are available in nearby Ajo. The entrance fee to monument is $8 per vehicle. Interagency Annual Passes (America the Beautiful), Senior/Golden Age, and Access passes are honored. There is no additional fee for the hike. For trailhead information and reservations, call rangers at the Kris Eggle Visitor Center at (520) 387-6849 x7302.

Re: Guided Hike into the Ajo Mountains
How are we doing reservations? Everyone for themselves or are you going to count noses this week and make the call? Also, we should setup a carpool.

Re: Guided Hike into the Ajo Mountains
I guess it's everyone for themselves. As of this morning there were still nine openings for the 21st and seven for the 4th.

Re: Guided Hike into the Ajo Mountains
I have to work on the 4th. But I'm not sure if it's worth the drive solo. I may just opt for the Supes since they're close and there's still some things I haven't seen there, a rock or two.
