Mt. Kimball via Finger Rock Tr. Sun. Mar. 29

Post by DarthStiller »

I'm getting tired of driving up the Beeline for all my hikes and I've been wanting to check out some of the better Tucson hikes that I can do as dayhikes from Mesa. Leaving my house again at 5:30am.

ok... well fellow metal head here... but slayer doesn't do it for me! i'm much more of an old school metal guy [pantera, down] but i have gotten into the new throwdown albums.

stiller i can meet you at your house if you want as i will be in east mesa . however, if we take the i-10 then i can just meet up with james in phoenix as i live right off route 51.

sorry for the delayed response. been studying my arse off.

Let's plan on meeting @ Stiller's house before 0530. My friend in Tucson might join us (he's a Steelers fan as well). He suggested we think about doing Mount Kimball via Pima Canyon. Both hikes are awesome.

I'll have to go thru some of my CDs and readjust the catalog in the car for this trip. I've got a pirated version of the Down II CD as well as some pantera. I'm also big on the heavier grunge and alternative bands like Helmet, Melvins, LocalH, Rollins Band, Ministry, Filter, etc. The Steelermobile is outfitted with the factory premium stereo package, so just say when it's too loud :-$.

Let's meet at my place and go the back way thru Florence. I need to recheck the maps once we get close to Tucson so I know where I'm going.

What time exactly do you want to meet before 5:30am? a few minutes or more like 5am? Let me know so I can adjust my sleep time accordingly.

I pretty much have my heart set on the Finger Rock trail. I'm knocking off some hikes in a book my wife bought me when we were dating. I highlight the hikes as I do them, and I'm almost halfway thru (after 7 years).

Probably more like 5:25 am. I'm not a morning person, but I can get up for this hike.
You won't need any maps. I used to live in Tucson, and I've been to that trailhead many times.
Finger Rock trail rocks. It kicked my pumpkin when I did it a few years ago (with my buddy in Tucson who's a Steelers fan who may join us this time), and you'll definitely appreciate it.
I can bring some Slayer, Sepultura, and Pantera.

We could listen to Slayer's 'Reign in Blood', all 29 minutes of it, over and over. Someone has to do it.

Throwdown is good stuff; did you know they originally started out as a joke band and were shocked at how popular their lyrics and style was?

well the last two albums were good... i don't like the first four or so. i'm actually a big fan of speed + prog metal but some of the heavier stuff has it's moments. death had some good songs/albums, but it seemed a bit too technical for some people to get into.

Yea, I hear that for sure. I'm one of those numetal haters who listens to metalcore and thrash almost exclusively. Fast feet = good metal :bigth:

sarichter, you asked if you could upload some stuff to your mp3 player which may or may not play in Stiller's car, but if I have one request it's Sepultura and Pantera.
I love Hawaiian music, but this isn't a Jack Johnson type of hike.

I don't have a jack to plug inan mp3 player. it will read mp3 files off a homemade burnt CD, but that's about it as far as I know. I'm still resistant to new formats: I still listen to the tapes of all the vinyl I bought in college. I'm mad I can't play alot of my stuff in my car now. I've got The Great Southern Trendkill, the live pantera (title?, does it matter?) and Reinventing the Steel on CD. I don't have Sepultura, but I do have the Nailbomb, as I said. White Zombie's Astro Creep 2000 is one my faves, and sounds awesome on the stereo.

why do I get the feeling we may just end up driving around for 8 hours blasting our eardrums out?

dysfunction, I'm also into the Sex Pistols, saw them live back in 1996. SOD is about the oldest hardcore I got into. the other punk stuff I like is all the 90s bands.

if CD's you want, that's perfectly fine. You don't need a jack for an mp3 player though. If you have a 12V cigarette lighter, then i have a broadcaster that will work with my mp3 player. it's small, compact, and easily portable. i'll bring just in case, and if you opt out, no biggie... just thought i'd try to be helpful with some good tunes. and no... it's not "mr microphone" :) it's the 21st century... it works pretty darn well :)

James, i'll drop some sepultura on there as well.

I can guarantee that we'll be ready to rock when we get to the trailhead. Kaiowas is one of my all-time favorites. My roommate bailed, but my buddy in Tucson is still in. I hope we can pick him up on the way, and he is on the way.

I'd pick Finger Rock over Pima. If you have two cars you could do both, though.
