Lone Pine TH

Post by kgmolson »

Just wondering what shape the access road off the Bee line was in.

I have a Subaru Outback now and thinking about taking this route as apposed to the El Oso route.

so anyone been up there recently?

Pretty much same as always. It's doable, it's rough. It's only about 15 minutes longer to go around.

ah, right on. I will probably just go around. Last time out (about a year ago) I rolled my civic down El Oso and kind of wanted to avoid it, but dont really want to rough the Outback up too much... So I think i will just go El Oso.

Are the bugs out yet?

Surprisingly no. However it's generally breezy up there being between two air masses so that probably cuts down on it.

It'll be getting too hot up there very soon. It's been unusually cool this April. It's a better hike in Nov, Dec, Mar. Keep in mind it's a very difficult hike. I'd still go if any strong hiker has Wednesdays available. I think I can do it in 8 hours. When it cools down next winter I'd like to do an out-n-back using the various routes I now know.

When I was up there about a week and a half ago there were LOTS of little tiny gnats......it was so bad when me and a buddy were sprinting down from Brown's Saddle we were eating them and almost getting blinded by them.
