Double Crap!

Unfortunately, I just found out that I have cancer of the larynx, (throat). I'm treating it aggressively and have scheduled a procedure for July 16th to have the growths removed. I'm very positive, and there is every indication that the procedure, with radiation therapy and chemotherapy will take care of the problem. I have instructed the surgeon, that if he deems the removal of larynx, (voice box) is indicated, that he not do so. I cannot, will not live without the ability to speak.

I have lead a rich, full life and I am prepared to endure whatever challenges are presented. I've always considered myself kind, understanding and generous. If God so wills it, I simply want to die with dignity and in peace. My life has been all the more enriched having known you all. There is a kinship of people who see, and share the beauty in nature, that is unlike any other relationship in the universe. I suppose it’s like being a child, and having viewed Orion for the first time with your father. You know that no matter where you are for the rest of your life, you will always have that shared experience.

Snick - you definitely have the prayers and support of a devoted group of people here. You have enough positive carma just from rescuing Scout - that ought to account for something as well.

We all wish you the best, and hope to see you out on the trail with us as soon as circumstances permit. Which had better be soon - or we will have some words...

We'll even save a bowl of some MILD chili for you at the next shindig.

Then again, maybe I should give you a bowl of my Nuclear Chili - that ought to take care of any pesky old cancer - it very nearly does ME in when I eat it.

Cowboy up and beat this thing.

Rick... Ricky... smile for the world! You said it right there, that's what life is all about... feeling! It's not about speech or what you do or don't have. I envy your freely carring personality. Since I don't have a little hugging icon " { [ ( ) ] } " brackets will have to suffice.

Snick(Rick),I've not had the pleasure of meeting you and alway enjoy your informative,funny postings.This one is not so funny.Know that you are in my heart+prayers and all the HAZers feel the same. I just know you can beat this.After all,you have Scout to raise and a new generation goin on. Hang in there.

Rick, you have the good postive mental attiudes to beat this thing. Stay strong. Life just keeps throwing us all these curve balls. One can never know what is going to happen to them in the next five minutes. Lee Marvin had this and when the surgery was done he had this real cool deep voice. Kick this thing in the pumpkin and keep driving on.

I don't know a dang thing about cancer or voice boxes but if it is a choice between a voice or living awhile longer--screw the voice. One turn on the planet man and this is your turn. Choose to stay with us-please.

I've thought about my bravado in saying that no one is taking my larynx. I'm covinced now that if having it removed only gives me another month of life, it's worth it. I've never met you, but you have always reminded me of Ruth Gordon, strong and courageous.

Hi Rick, since I'm new here(again) I've not had the pleasure of meeting you either. After reading some of the comments posted here it would appear that, as long as you have your fingers, you have a voice that a lot of people can only dream of having!
