I hiked Sterling Pass in November, 2007. The damage wasn't that bad--just part of the trail had dead pines. The undergrowth was coming back fast, and after another year has passed, it should be springing up this time of year. There were sumac trees and ferns along the trail. The oak trees at the summit of the pass weren't burned at all. This trail has big "steps". I don't know how tall you are, but after I did this one, I went out and got hiking poles! Have fun, and post pictures so we can see.

It wasn't a total wipe out. It does blow in the lower section as Autumn foliage hasn't been the same since. In the upper it's sad as some of the pines had uniquely large limbs. On a positive note the views looking out aren't blocked anymore.

I did it last memorial day weekend. The worst fire damage was near the start of the trail.

Now I'm considering doing it this weekend. It's on the short list, so it'll be done eventually. I'll definitely post photos.
