Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
Want to do a backpack up on the rim this weekend. I know it's a little short notice but anybody want to come. Also if anyone knows anywhere else that will have mild temps somewhat close by I'm open to suggestions.....supes are just too hot for me.

Re: Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
you want to do willow or woods caynon, that not on the rim but close. willow is good with a bush wack in the beginning to a pretty narrow caynon, we would have to get wet,
i have never done woods, because of the shuttle problem, but would like to

Re: Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
I know a group of people camping somewhere along the cabin loop this weekend. I'm going to join up with them Friday night and probably hike some part of the loop on Saturday morning, maybe 5-10 miles, not sure. I wasn't really intending to make a plan, but if you're going to be in the cabin loop area, PM me and I'll see if I can come up with some more details...

Re: Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
it is off of lake mary's rd. on the west side of it. the route is described in a canyoneering book that is orange at rei if you want to try it i am still up for it. the route is a day hike, but i am sure that we could look at the area and find some type of look to do that would make it more of an over night.

It's called "willow valley" on this site.

Re: Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
Considering we both hammock I SERIOUSLY doubt we would have trouble finding a camping spot. Ya I guess we will make this a Willow Valley trip then. Weather looks amazing up there this weekend too. Sunny with high of 80ish the whole weekend......great for having to do a few swims
Anyone else wana join in on this one.....just as a warning me and pickel hammock so I don't think we were looking specifically for a camp site with good tent spots.

Re: Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
the water is icy cold! and the swims are not just a in and out, a floaty that keeps you above the water would of been nice.

I think they did. Only foliage that really stands out in my mind where the acres of briarthorn we had to plow through trying to figure out how to get down into the canyon.....that took us a good hour and a half just to get down there

Re: Something on the Rim May 9th-10th
The oaks and cottonwoods have leaves, and most of the aspen had sprouted too, though they were just getting going. Forest Service firewood permits prevent cutting aspen before June 1st and after Sept. 15 because people are dumb and can't figure out if a tree is dead or alive if it doesn't have leaves on it. In any case, the FS firewood guideline establishes clearly that by June 1st all the trees up there will have leaves!
