Hey Hooli, Do you hike in from the hatchery or Tonto Campground or from the top of the rim? My favorite is going in from the hatchery. I think I could hike the 3.5 miles with my eyes closed I have done it so many times. It is one of my top 3 "AZ paradise spots" as I have come to classify them. My favorite time to get pictures from there is during winter with all the snow on the ground. It is breathtaking!

Tomorrow I'm heading down south for a few days backpacking in the Chiricahuas. I'll have a trail description and photos to share when I get back.

Didn't go yesterday; got an e-mail from Annie (Patches) that she was on the way back to the Land of AZ from visiting her kids in Iowa and knew she'd like to do Horton. She's home now and we're gonna do it Saturday; then planning on Fossil Springs next week. :D

We did Horton Creek Trail today; very nice and man, does that spring gush :!: They've clearly had a lot of rain in that area 'cause the trail was very muddy in spots. Wonder how much of a gusher that spring was a couple of months ago.
Will e-mail a few photos to Frugal :P Joe later for adding to the TrailDex for this hike.

Frugal?

Gee thanks :? (scratching my head... didn't Hooli get TWO free shirts?)

BTW... According to Olesma the gusher is not a "spring"

Liter/litter...."I was saving space" Frugal Joe

And yeah, I got two free HAZ tees and I have HAZ decals on the golf cart, the Jeep and the motorhome; sorry, the Bimmer doesn't do decals or bumper stickers :!:

And you were a big hit at the Chili Shindig with all the Tees that GTG passed out (I didn't take one 'cause I didn't wanna be too greedy  ) and that's where I picked up the third HAZ decal that now resides on the motorhome.
There's no way anybody, least of all me, consders you cheap!
You just don't like to waste space on HAZ

OK, hiked Horton Creek trail yesterday; really nice hike and lush creekside. Mostly cloudy with no rain but must have rained recently 'cause some sections of muddy trail. Hiking in, stopped off and tried out the new Pur Hiker water filter thinking, "This creeks so clear and swift running there's probably no need to filter it." Later, saw a big dog peeing in the creek just below the spring (or non-spring) and changed my mind :!:

Horton usually gushes like that all the time. There is also another little spring just to the east across the big log and on the north cliff. It sure is beautiful round those parts.

I took my daughters up to the rim to go fishing yesterday. They both caught their limit and when we headed home we had lots of time so we took 300 back to 87. About 15 miles or so east of 87 we decided to stop and picnic. As we were getting out of the car we turned and much to our delight there was a bear chowing on the raspberries no more than 20 feet from us. He stood upright and as we rustled threw the car for our camera he became bored with us and went back to eating his lunch. We got some awesome pictures before he decided to take off. It was sooooo exciting. :D
