Favorite Supes Views

Post by JoelHazelton »

I'm getting really antsy waiting for the temperature to drop so I can head back out to the sonoran desert, so in an effort to stay sane, I'm planning potential trips to the superstitions for this winter.

For you Superstition vets, what are your favorite views out there? Preferably Western Supes, since that's where the dramatic topography is. I'm a big fan of the views from the top of Bluff Springs Mountain. Battleship Mountain of course is another great one, and the view of the ridgeline from the Flatiron is breathtaking. Ones I'm curious about and plan on checking out are Picacho Butte (in the Coffee Flat Mountains above LaBarge Canyon), Weavers Needle from Dacite Mesa, and LaBarge Mountain.

Anyone care to share opinions and get excited about returning to the Superstitions like I am?

the eastern side of the coffee flat mtns is great from red tanks trail, and possibly the only thing red tanks trail has going for it.
view from coronado mesa into fish creek was pretty good
i still like the view into boulder from atop the hill just east of canyon lake. beats the pants off fremont saddle imo.
but the view of the stars from a hammock beats them all

Yeah Fish Creek from Coronado Mesa is pumpkin good, and Boulder Canyon from atop the hill is classic. I'll ahve to check out Coffee Flat Mountains from red tanks, but what I'm really curious about is getting on top of those mountains (like I mentioned Picacho Butte).

Sunset and then the sunrise from Black Top Mesa on a clear night without a moon. :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

I caught a sunset from the top of Black Top Mesa last March. I think I had tunnel vision and was focusing too hard on getting a photo of Weavers Needle and missed anything else that may have been on around me. Unfortunately I slept through sunrise the next morning :(

On the Eastern side, try the Two Bar Ridge Trail from the Tule TH to Walnut Spring. There are some nice views after the first 2,000 ft climb, but the really good ones are after the second.
