AZT - Alamo Canyon section

Post by DarthStiller »

I've decided to abandon the Parker creek idea for this weekend. It was Jim's idea, anyway, and he bailed. I want to do to Alamo Canyon section of the AZT, from Picketpost Mt. TH south. This one is in tonyp's recent book. 15 miles RT, 1000' elevation gain.

Criminy. Sorry, gentlemen, but this puppy is in Stiller's hands. I just realized that U of A's Homecoming is the day before, and the chances of me not being criminally intoxicated are pretty slim. Not going to make it. Enjoy and keep pulling for the Steelers D to keep taking the ball to the house!

I'd like to declare myself as now "Interested", as opposed to "Committed" until someone else commits. Can't seem to change my status on this like you used to be able to. Joe?

When Jim canceled it locked up as there must be a leader. I dropped Jim. If you drop from committed it will lock up again.

I'll just leave my status as is then for convenience. but if no one else commits, I've got a backup hike.

Stefan, even though I've bowed out I guesstimated it at about 14 mile RT with the trip to the top of Aztec Peak.
As for a walking stick, I'd recommend the Shurlock (Sherlock?) staff that I have. It breaks down into 2 pieces, and the lower piece is extendable. I store it in my pack on uphill portions, and bring it out on downhill portions. REI doesn't carry it the last I checked, but the AZ Hiking Shack near you may carry it.

I've got extra walking sticks if you want to try out a cheapie first before you buy one.

Thanks... i wasn't planning on buying one anyway... more like finding one to use. That stick i picked up on Mt Lemmon worked out nice, just too bad i got angry on the way down when i stepped the wrong way and threw it :D

I'll have to see how my knee is doing first to make sure. I definitely don't want a repeat of Mt Lemmon.

I'm going to plan on it for now. But if the Steelers beat the Broncos this Monday I'm out!

That game is the next day, that's why I'm hiking on a Sunday.

So between you and sarichter, we have 2 bronco fans interested. My neighbor is also interested and he's a bronco fan. If no one commits I'm not gonna do this. too long of a drive to go by myself when there are closer hikes i havent done yet.
