Rated as the 5th toughest day hike in the continental U.S. Its like going from Everest basecamp to summit without the extreme cold and lack of oxygen, athough it will be cold in Nov. You'll gain over 10k of elevation in about 16miles and then hike down another 5.5 to catch the tram back. If your truely interested, PM me. I'd like to get about 6 people so we can have two cars and leave one where the tram drops off. Tenative date would be drive up on 11/13 start hike 11/14 very dark and very early Palm springs to the top of Mt San Jacinto. The only thing comparing it to Everest really is the distance and elevation gain. This hike is about 1,000 feet less gain than basecamp to summit. And I can tell you that from Experience, because I did once watch a show on the hike up Denali

Enjoy!
I'd take the 24,000ft 3 times up to the tram shuttle option before grinding my knee caps off coming down that 10k!
In looking at Joe's track...I saw a place called Snow Creek...Did some research and you can take the PCT and other trails to the Top of Mt. San Jacinto and down to the tram(would need to pre park a car). Its 31 or so miles....maybe next year instead of and up and down
