Waterfalls?
With all the rains we have been getting, we were forced to cancel our trip to Charlebois this weeked. Are there any day hikes that would be worth checking out to see waterfalls from all of the flooding and run off?

Re: Waterfalls?
Just drive Apache Trail to Tortilla Flat and observe the water falls off of the various cliffs. That is if you can still get to Tortilla Flat!

Re: Waterfalls?
I'm planning Massacre Falls and Siphon Draw this weekend. I'm also curious about the drainage that runs along the Second Water trail as it heads east towards Second Water Creek. It looks like there could be some pretty cool little cascades through there. I'm sure Reavis will be kicking butt (but I wouldn't count on driving across Tortilla Creek to approach Reavis trailhead from the west). Peter's Canyon will be rocking, but if Tortilla Creek is too high I'm not sure how accessible it will be.

Re: Waterfalls?
I doubt that you will be able to drive the road to the First Water Trail Head either.

Re: Waterfalls?
Interesting about the road to First Water. I was planning on heading back to Battleship on Monday. I've been eyeballing Monday as the 1st or 2nd clear day after this storm passes through and everything is lining up nicely
Boulder canyon should be interesting.

I'm planning on doing LaBarge Box and Boulder Canyon on Jan 30. Wondering what things will look like one week after the storm.jostream wrote:Interesting about the road to First Water. This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

That big fall north of Sedona near Encinosa should be going pretty well in few weeks if things start to melt.

That brings back sad memories of the day I wrecked my knee. Watch out for deadfall, it was raining/sleeting/snowing hard that day and the snags were going down like bowling pins.te-wa wrote:the mazatzals are nuts with waterfalls.

Re: Waterfalls?
87 is closed at bush highway, no getting to the mazatzals unless you hike there from fountain hills.
Oh and 60 is closed east of globe due to a landslide as well.
17 is closed at sedona.
Anyone think this weekend will be crowded in the local parks, parking will be at a premium for sure with a captive audience.
Edit: Apache trail closed at Tortilla Flats due to flooded and possibly disappeared, road.

Re: Waterfalls?
I figured that any serious flooding would take away some of the Apache Trail. Numerous stretches east of Tortilla Flats (and some bridges) are probably gone.nonot wrote:Apache trail closed at Tortilla Flats due to flooded and possibly disappeared, road.

Re: Waterfalls?
I would bet on all the bridged crossings from Tortilla Flat to the east are still intact. The only thing missing will be the asphalt on the concrete crossing by Tortilla Flat and the gravel surface on Fish Creek Hill. ;)
I would like to be at the bridge that crosses Fish Creek right now to see how high the water is in that narrow channel..... For sure I won't have to pick up any trash along that stretch for quite a while!

Re: Waterfalls?
there is a video up on Facebook of the crossing at Tortilla Flat. The creek is a torrent across the road and it looks like it's ripped up a lot more asphalt.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Re: Waterfalls?
I would love to see the waterfall up in Malicious Gap but getting across Tonto Creek will be pretty rough for the next month between the recent storms and the heavy snowmelt coming in the future.

BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ – This week's rain and snow from across Arizona has caused a lot of damage.
But it has also created some rare beauty.
In the attached photos and video, check out a waterfall that's developed in the hills above Black Canyon City.
That's just north of the Phoenix Metro area.
Wind from the waterfall is creating a fog-like affect. Enjoy!
